Grammar was strongly stressed, especially in the college preparatory classes. For reading, new materials for individual de- velopment were available. All seniors were required to pass a test on grammar, spelling, punc- tuation, and capitalization. Stu- dents tailing this test were enroll- ed in a special class after school, and the test was repeated later. A strong effort was made to have every college-bound pupil write a theme a week. Essay tests were also encouraged. Mike Lampe gives an oration for the speech arts class 'N' M siii 'rl 'M - QJR Ri 1 .
