Busy Hands In Time Cf Needy Red Cross Workers Do Succeed HE ARCS, or the American Red Cross Service, under the direction of Mrs Esther Grell, and the Red Cross Service Club sponsored by Miss julia janecek, are txxo very popular clubs with victory conscious girls, Besides sweaters, the girls also knitted special scarfs for the Army and Xax y They abandoned social meetings and instead spent their time knitting and sewing. At the request of the Red Cross chapter, the girls converted several l'olts of flannel into warm bed jackets for refugee children. To conserve material, they used the scraps of flannel for making service mens sewing kits. They also cut the scraps into little squares and made baby blankets out of them. Working together the two clubs knitted enough six inch squares to make one large af- ghan, which was given to the Red Cross to be used in bomb shelters. The afghan was a con- tribution from all the members of both clubs, since each girl knitted at least one square, At the end of the year the clubs displayed their handiwork to the student body The ofhcers of the ARCS are: ,lane Vnuk, president, Violet Gilbert, vice-president, Dore- thea Taylor, secretary, Mildrecl Bohacek, treasurer.
