Who 46961 4:14 We O You who have left us, and to you who are about to leave us soon, we dedicate this page. You are all those whom we knew a few short months ago. You thought you knew us well, too. And when you begin to fight, we think we know what will happen. When you begin to fight, it will not be with the automatic movement of a well- oileol machine of robots, but with the purpose-full activity of persons fighting for their own right to a destiny in a world of opportunity. You willfight with the crash of waves on the rocky shores of New England and the flash of lightning over the Great Plains. You will fight with the exultant laugh of red-hot molten steel in a factory. You will fight with the triumphant cry of winds through the tall trees of the northwest. You will fight with the sun and the sweat of California and the icy gales of the North, and the measured cadence of a hymn rising heaven-ward from the Southlands. You will fight with the love and laughter you remember from your homes, fortified with the knowledge that you are in the right. You will fight with the remembrance of the little, homely things that are a part of your living and that weave themselves into the pattern that is your life. You willfight with the whole wonderful network of people and animals and machines and trees and beauty and love that is America behind you Wlith your own hands you must shape your world of the future, as you would have it. It will be your right to be what you like, a student, a laborer, a draftsman, a musician, a clerk, or just a dreamer. The whole world will be yours. PAGE 7
