ff'ooo HE WHO SERVES As curtain raiser we are showing how the sciences at Lincoln serve progress, America, and the students, The house lights go down, the footlights go up. the curtains part 'The Show Is On with science on the stage. Vi ROBJXBLY only a small percentage of l.incoln's science students will ever enter one ofthe hranches of science, numerous as they are, as a profession. In spite oi' this, the many ways in which their lives are directly all-ccted hy science requires that they have at least a rudimentary understanding of the world in which thcv live. lt is toward this end that science, hiology. physics, chemistry, and geography strive, ln general science, required of all freshmen, students get the hasic principles upon which future science courses are founded. Under the direction of Xir. Nohle Anderson and Nlr. Edward Rocher, some three hun- dred students are annually given a start. Lfnder the assumption that a good start is half the race, it would seem that each of the remaining in- structors has only a small part in the taslt of completing the students high school training, lik you thinlt. how- ever, that this is the case, stop in at Xir. lfdwin llriclqsonis chemistry class and try to enjoy the odors resulting from some students innocently comhining the wrong ehemicalsg and, in fact, sometimes even the right ones don't do so well hy themselves. Or you might visit a class in hiology where Niiss Helene Dedriclc is explaining the study of living things to responsive minds. Top-Senior Ruth Ann Stangel and Frosh Paula Specht learn all about a hygrometer from Mr. Noble Anderson, instructor in general science. Center-Behind the impressive array of glass tubing is Raymond Becker, junior, student in Mr. Edwin Erickson's chemistry class. Bottom - ln study hall is lVIr. Edward Rocher who handles general science and diverse sports. With him is Paul Holseh- bach, sophomore. ' fzlw il
