Official ballofs are used for council and class elecfions, fhe unif room elecfions being local proiecfs. . . . ARE KEPT SMOOTH BUT NOT QUIET Elecfion 'rimel Brighf colored campaign posfers blossom along fhe corridors, cafchy slogans are on every fongue, and flashy campaign buHons are on every sweafer. Some of fhe more loyal boosfers can be seen wearing fags, buHons, and weird headgear proclaiming fheir allegiance. Confroversies run high! Candidafes are acclaimed and, al' fhe pealc of enfhusiasm, fhe Elecfion Assembly is held. Sfuclenfs enfer +he gymnasium and sfudy halls wi+h various emo- fions, buf an air of indecision prevails. The managers infroduce and laud fheir canclidafes, who in furn exfoll 'rheir virfues and fheir plai- forms. Blaring bands and romping cheerleaders heighien 'rhe already feverish enfhusiasm. The climax fo fhe excifemenf is reached when, lafer in fhe day, fhe resulfs are announced over fhe P.A. During lhis school year 'Ihe lwenly-Iwo members of 'rhe council have worked on such proiecls as fhe Homecoming half-'lime aclivilies and dance, rhe drive for Muscular Dyslrophy funds, Know Your School Nighl, a guide for a dress code, lrophies for spring sporls, and special money-making pro- iecfs +o bring anolher foreign exchange sludenl +o Ferndale. For lheir line work each council member received a gold pin al a school assembly. The Sfudenl Council forms irself info various com- millees during lhe year lo carry on ils work. These include lhe Sfeering Commilfee, which is composed ol all 'rhe officers, Ways and Means Commirlee, Morale Commillee, Assembly Commillee, Railsplif- ler of lhe Week, Showcase Commillee, and Ex- change Sludenl Commi++ee.
