James Brill, in his lirsl running as a harrier, look lirsl place, lrafled closely by his loam males and delealing lhe opponenls 20-70. Brill again led lhe harriers lo a viclory over Royal Qak in lhe second run, wilh Caplain Wall laking lhe nexl Lincoln place, lollowed by l-larold Wedlick, a veleran, who look sixlh place. This score was 24-37. Monroe, Ann Arbor and Ferndale held a lri-cily meel in Ann Arbor. Monroe was lirsl, Lincoln second, and Ann Arbor lhird. Scores: I9-53-78. Then lhe harriers came back by bealing Birmingham 20-35. Owen ol Birmingham was lhe lirsl lo linish, lollowed closely by Brill and Caplain Wall and lhe olher harriers. Al River Rouge lhe Ferndale runners look lhe lirsl six places, which were beller lhan a perlecl score, I5-45. THE PRESIDENT--I933 BASKETBALL Lincoln opened Their season wiTh Holy Name. Co-capfain Frye led The Team wiTh a ToTal of I3 poinfs, alfhough Capfain Lyons deserved much credif. The score was I4 To 26 aT The half in Their favor, buf our Team sTarTed scoring and soon were T.ed wiTh our opponenTs. Then The fasT-sfepping Holy Name Team scored a few poinfs and Lincoln was unable To reach Them, The final score being 33-38. Off To a good sTarT, our boys were seeking a vicTory when They encounTered Van Dyke. The score was I4 To 7 aT The half wiTh our Team aT The long end. Then Lincoln laid down and soon Van Dyke was only a few pofnfs behind. Poyryla, Van Dyke guard, missed a field goal from a difficulf posifion under The paskef in The lasT seconds of play, wiTh his Team Trailing by one poinf, The final score being 25 To 26. Dick Tvlerchanf made his iniTial appearance of The season wffh The firsf Team, replacing Elijah Burf aT forward. Frye and Nannen were Tied for scoring honors wiTh six poinfs each. Lincoln was downed in Their nexf conTesT wiTh Wyandoffe by a score of ZI-I6. The Team work of our quinTeTTe made The game very close, The score aT The half being Tied aT I I poinfs each. Our Team rallied To Take The lead I5-I3: Then VVyan- doTTe forged ahead To finish in fronf. The final score was 2l-I6. Frye was again high man, six poinfs. Our boys meT up wifh a gianf, fasf, smoofh-working Team aT Porf Huron. We were oufplayed Throughouf The game and The resulf was a vicTory for Porf Huron, 33 To 3. Lo Prefe made Lincoln's only baskef by sinking a long shof from The cenfer of The floor. Fowler made a free Throw for The ofher poinf. River Rouge Took our boys for anofher defeaf, alfhough we led aT The half, as usual. Capfain Lyons was forced To leave The game wiTh four personal fouls. The River Rouge Team gained on our fasT-firing boys and finished in The lead, The score being 26 To l5. Lincoln scored only Three poinTs in The lasf half. Capfain Lyons led our Team wiTh five poinfs. Then came The big upsefl Monroe visifed Lincoln affer Taking Ypsilanfi High by a decisive score. Coach Bud Brown fold The boys beforehand ThaT They were To play This champion Team, and ThaT They would have To play hard. How They did play! They overcame a seven-poinT lead which Monroe had aT The half. CapTain Lyons was sinking shoTs from every place aT every direcfion. When The whisfle ended The game, The score was 30 To 23 wiTh Lincoln aT The long end. Lyons capfured scoring honors wiTh fourfeen poinfs. Merchanf had four personals and was forced To go To The showers. The nexf game was wiTh our neighbors from Hazel Park. The firsf half was decidedly ours by a score of I6 To 5. During The whole season we seemed To be ahead aT half Time buf losT our lead in The second half. So if was wiTh This game. Hazel Park climbed sfeadily and soon were only a few poinfs behind. Harry Wilson kepf our lead by making six poinfs in The lasT quarfer wiTh Frye and Lo Prefe making four each. Harry led scoring honors wiTh Ten poinfs. The game wiTh Royal Oak was played wiThouT Capfain Lyons as he had graduafed. Corbin Frye was now our capfain and proved very capable of The Task. Royal Oak, our efernal rivals, gave us our firsf defeaf affer winning Two games. A5 usual we were close To leading aT The half, Royal Oak making shoTs and our boys missing Them. Capfain Frye led The scoring wiTh seven pofnfs followed by Lo Prefe who had five. Royal Oak, keeping The lead Throughouf The game, won by a slighf margin, 24 To 2I. Grosse Poinfe, runner-up for STaTe Championship, meT Lincoln on our own floor for The only nighf game held here. They Towered always above The Railspliffers and exhibifed superior baskeTball. We didn'T have a chance: They had The heighf and Their shofs were dead. Lo Prefe was Taken ouf in The firsf quarTer wiTh Three personals.
