Membership is lim'Ted only To Those having aT leasT one semesTer's sTudy oT LaTin. This pasT year There have been approx'maTely 40 members, represenTing The boys and girls almosT equally. The organizaTion OT The club is in imiTaTion oT The Roman sTaTe during The period OT The republic. l:irsT year LaTin sTudenTs are considered plebeians, while second Year LaTin sTudenTs are The more hoonred paTricians, whose badge is The purple sTripe. These groups have enjoyed This semesTer, Tor The TirsT Time, The innovaTion oT club pledges serving as Their slaves. The principal oTFicers are Two consuls who alTernaTe as presiding oTTicers, The guaesTor or Treasurer, and The scriba or secreTary, who, according To LaTin derivaTion is supposed To be The lceeper oT The club secreTs and noT To scribble Too much. There are also Two censors, Tribunes, aediles, a praeTor and ponTiTex. Various acTiviTies have been sponsored by The LaTin club Tor The beneTiT oT LaTin sTudenTs. One OT The major proiecTs was The annual Roman bangueT held in January. This was aTTended by abouT IOO guesTs Togged ouT in Their besT sheeTs and pillow cases. Much merrinnenT was enjoyed by The Roman rnenu and enTerTainmenT by The nine muses, who reclined on couches as a demonsTraTion ol: The ancienT Roman sTyle. lv1enTion should be made oT vocabulary conTesTs arranged and conducTed Tor LaTin classes, The insTiTuTion oT a Roman museum and presenTaTion oT a display cabineT, builT by I-lildreTh Blanchard and made possible by conTribuTions Trom l.aTin sTudenTs. Lane was aslced To Talce over The advisorship, buT she didn'T Teel as Though she would have enough Time Tor boTh The clubs because she was already The advisor of The Spanish Club. The purpose oT our club is To pronnoTe a beTTer undersTanding oT The people, Their cusTorns, and The languages oT France and Spain, and To bring TogeTher socially, The sTudenTs OT boTh The modern foreign languages. We have Two meeTings a monTh. The TirsT meeTing is on The second Tuesday and is in The aTTernoonq The second meeTing is The TourTh Tuesday oT The monTh and is aT nighT. The aTTernoon meeTing is our business mee-Ting: The nighT meeTing is our social meeTing where we play games in The Toreign languages, hear debaTes or reporTs come paring The counTries or have ouTside spealcers or presenT plays. Ellen won a scribe honor Tor sending aT leasT eighT consecuTive reporTs To headquarTers. In OcTober we had a parTy Tor new members and Iafer Tour guesTs ioined. We Turned in 36 garmenTs To Needlework Guild and received our beads in March. We also planned To give The proceeds of our candy sales To local welTare, buT The bank closed. We decided To have one person responsible Tor our welfare proiecTs, so Barbara Chopin was eIecTed. Ten oT us wenT on a conducTed Trip Through DeTroiT's STaTIer I-IoTel in December. We had a ceremonial Tor our new members before ChrisTmas and six girls carolled Through PIeasanT Ridge ChrisTmas Eve. Kind Bearers gave us over sweven dollars Tor The CommuniTy Fund. F January was a busy monTh wiTh exams, so we had only Two meeTings. BuT in Feb- ruary we elecTed new oTTicers and had a Transfer Trom a R. O. group. We gave a ceremonial and Tea aT Mrs. I-larper's house Tor broThers, as parT of our birThday re- quiremenT. Two Tire maker devisers were given in February, and ThaT shorT monTh iusT Tlew pasT. In March we all worked on The birThday proiecT, which This year was called Mak- ing The MosT of Me.
