....V THE PRESIDENT-l932m CLASS PROPHECY On fhe 3Isf day of February, I999, having enfered our second childhood, we, Gordon Perry and Margof l-liggin, decided 'ro go on a long debafed frip fo China. This frip was puf before us by a new conffnenfal company whose agenf was our old friend Daniel Beens, now in fhe business of high pressure salesmanship. Affer seffling affairs here in Ferndale, now fhe fhird largesf cify of fhe world, we embarked in a zooming super-aero dynamic air vehicle run by fhe aid of efher waves gafhered from fhe air by an infricafe elecfrical process. This super air vehicle was fo fake us fo our firsf sfop af Hollywood before iourneying on fo China. We walked down fhe aisle, approximafely one mile and a quarfer in lengfh, fo our seafs. As we were arranging our baggage, we noficed five women and one man siffing in a circle discussing maffers. We fred fo read, buf fhe chaffering and ofher noises prevenfed us. We looked around for somefhing else fo de, buf saw nofhing of more inferesf, so we decided fo ioin fhe parfy. Much fo our surprise we found if fo be none ofher fhan Capfafn Johnny Barqer and his harem - Mariorie Bryde, Efhel Jeffery, Viola Zink, lola La Vanseler, and Rufh Lllch. As we saf down, Mr. Barger, a man of greaf aufhorify and power, commanded Marjorie Bryde fo fill his pipe. Yes, John, Marjorie meekly answered, and she very quickly moved in fhe direcfion of fhe humidor. Viola and Efhel were enfhusiasfically discussing psychology, while Rufh was manicuring Johnny's fingernails. The super-aero dynamic ar veh'cl3, laridnfi in Cal'forn'a, needed fwo hou's fo refuel, during which fme all fha passengvs were allowed fo gef a bife fo eaf. We Sai' down af a small fable and immediafely a waifress came over fo fake our order. We were quffe asfounded fo find if fo be Dorofhy Persman. We imrnediafely renewed our oirl fricnd-thips and fhe gay f'm'wn we had experienced back in Ferndale, felling Do.ofhy of fha s'za and wealfh of Frrndale. Dopfhy modosfly remarked fo us fhaf she and Johnny Ndrecl had iuzf made f'1n'r final paymenf on fhe purchase of fhy candy sfore. Jusf fhen Johnny came rushing in. l-le was frighffully daubed wifh various colors of painf. Affer he had caughf his breafh, he fold us his presenf work was painf- ing scenery for fhe mofion picfure corporafion, locafed iusf a shorf disfance from fhe candy sfore. We felf if necessary fo visif fhe casfing lof fo see how movies were acfually produced, so Johnny fook us inside one of The sefs while one of fhe picfures was being rehearsed. We af once recognized Jack Nafe, direcfing a comedy. Jack was a perfecf scream as he fried fo direcf wifh a huge El Repo cigar in his rnoufh. l-lis peculiar haf was sef on 'rhe back of his head, as he said, Snap info if, Esfelle, more life: fhis play is mighfy imporfanff' Jack's sfenforian fone was very penefrafing. Poor Esfelle: Esfelle who? Why, Esfelle Badgleyl No wonder we didn'f recognize her af once: she now fips fhe scale: fo a close I9O pounds. When we refurned fo fhe candy sfore, Johnny asked us where we were going. We answered fhaf we were faking plefed fhrough fhe earfh fo China. While discussing new plans for fhe frip, along came Laurence Galbreafh, George l.inley, and Norman Freilfch, asking us if we would nof like fo buy some of fheir pink pills for pale people. This group was fhe Wesf's Three Pillefeersf' They sold fheir sfock by fhe gross, leading fhe Wesf in salesmanship. The fhree insisfed fhaf we fake This frip, as we would see qu'fe a few old classmafes working fowards fhe complefion of fhe highway. They all walked over fo fha fickef office wifh us, where we were fo buy our fickefs. The cashier we found here was Evelyn Nerrefer who, besides selling us our fickefs, sold us a Lincolnian. She insisfed on our buying one because fhere were a frip fo China. Johnny fhen fold us all abouf fhe new highway fhey had iusf com- inferesfing news ifems in fhe Blabbif Column. We remained af fhe sfafion for an hour and fhen bade a hearfy farewell fo our friends. We boarded 'rhe femporary open-air frolley and sfarfed fo read fhe Lin- lPlease furn fo Page 7ll -ol' 27 H l
