Nixon became the first president to resign, and Gerald Ford became the first man to become president without the public vote. The Watergate scandal created much controversy, and the res- ignation of many respected officials. Inflation has hit the country causing people to hang on to their money, and go without many items on which prices sky rocketed. Locally Ellwood City was informed of the moving of two major industries, U.S. Steel and Rexnord QMathews.l The town's people accepted the news with sadness, but also with determination to make the best of the situation. On the bright side, Ellwood City now has use of Veterans Memorial Swimming pool, completely renovated. Work took all summer and continued into the winter but the finished product was worth the wait.
