Seniors listen intently to Mr. Gills' chemical explanations. department aids students through career planning The Guidance Department was an aid to students from Junior High until graduation. As early as seventh grade, Miss Baringer and Mr. Spellman helped students in the preparation of schedules and courses of study. While Mr. Latimer scheduled sopho- mores and prepared them for their first year in Senior High, Miss Craig assisted juniors and seniors. Each year, tests were administered to measure each student's aptitudes, and they were then offered in- formation and interviewed by representa- tives of the armed forces, trade schools, and colleges. Because of the efforts of this department, Lincoln students were well informed about the fields they wished to pursue. William Croissant Carole Dainton Elinore Davis Phyllis DeMark P. English teacher, attended the humanities workshop at the National Council of Teach- ers of English Convention. The purpose of this convention was to en- liven the teaching of English. In the freshman year students who wished to increase their understanding of foreign lands and culture elected Latin, Spanish, or French. Latin students studied Cicero and Vergil's Aeneid. Stu- dents in French ll read Around the World in Eighty Days, and the third and fourth year French classes translated The Count of Monte Cristo.
