MR. J. ELLIS BELL Superintendent of Ellwoocl City Schools -l-l'l6 VGIUZ ol -l-IITlZ IME is older than the Universe. Yet we cannot grasp it, we cannot see it, we cannot analyze it, we cannot create nor can we destroy it. There is an equal amount of it for every boy and girl in Lincoln High School and for every man and woman in the Universe. It is so common that We have a tendency to under-estimate its value. and consequently quite often waste it or use it to poor advantage. In the selection of one's life work, it is highly important that he be familiar with the physical and mental requirements for the job he expects to do and that he is enthusiastic about its performance. For it is the degree in which one is interested in his work which determines to a large extent whether or not he will get full value for and derive complete satisfaction from his allotment of time. MR. RALPH C. Sl-IAFFER Principal of Lincoln l-ligh School Building With -l-:me EARS ago a famous sculptor was working with enthusiasm on a statue. He was visited by some friends before and after their extended vacation. His friends were astonished at how little he apparently accomplished between visits. Not only was he still working on the same statue, but also on the same part which they thought had been completed. In reply to their questions he told them he molded this and outlined that feature. Then, the master sculptor, Michelangelo reminded his friends that these details were trifles, but trifles make perfection and perfection is no trifle. Likewise in life it takes time plus excellent fashioning to develop fine character. It requires patient steadfast purpose to mold masterly into form the proper proportion of industry, honesty, firmness, faith, self- respect, idealism, patriotism, unselfishness, and other desirable traits. These qualities are developed only from many and varied experiences throughout one's life. 1 ELLWOODIAN
