Foreign Friend Axel Lomholt is from Tarm, Denmark. For him to become eligible to come to America a few require- ments had to be met. He had to speak some English, pass an English equivalency test to be approved and be able to care for himself without parental as- sistance. Axel will finish his sophomore year here at Lincoln. He says that Lincoln is twice as big as his school in Denmark. He also likes the idea of be- ing able to eat off campus. He loves the burgers at McDonalds. He plans to attend a soccer college in Den- mark. Axels on the soccer team at Lincoln. He loves American sports such as football and basketball. His host family has a son Gilbert Gonzales, who also attends Lincoln. Gilbert, Axel and their friends have gone to see the mountains, Red Rocks, and they have also skied in the mountains. Axel likes our high mountains better than the flat green lands of Denmark. Last summer he went to some other large cities in America such as New York, and Phil- adelphia. He also visited Disneyland in California. The style of clothes in Denmark is the Miami Vice style. Madonna is Axels favorite singer. Friends say he has posters that are not available in the Unites States. Axel said he will come back to visit his host family and new friends some time in the future. G. Garson CELEBRATE ALHS 7

School means a lot to me because of the social and academic aspect, said Renia Reynolds, also a junior. As summer came to an end, a new school year at ALHS started with great ideas for a fantastic year and a fresh new approach to learn- ing. It was definitely worth cele- brating! When many students crowded the halls on that first day of school, there were hugs and laughs. The bell rang and your first class began. School days were filled with a lot of enjoyable times, and studying for the many tests that had to be taken. The excitement of competition filled Lincoln when we had varsity and junior varsity sports. When those ever-famous weekends ar- rived, we were ready to put down our books and take a break from school work. Students kept busy by going to work, dances, or just hav- ing a good time with friends! Remember the sweaty palms and nervousness of that first date? One can never forget the lunch hours or the short five minutes be- tween classes, not only dashing through the halls, but laughing and joking with friends too. just as the years before, Lin- coln and the people who came here made every moment a time to cele- brate, not only the laughter, but the growing times as well.
