As the decade closes we will remember those people The 70's made political history when for the first time a president resigned and Watergate became a new word in the dictionary. Vice President Gerald Ford then took over for Nixon. Mr. Ford held this position for the rest of' the termg then President Carter was voted in. Henry Kissinger was an important political figure in the 70's also. He had a big part in keeping peace. As the decade closes Vance has taken over the position as Secretary of State. In the world of sports, Muhammad Ali has been the main man. The world heavy-weight champ has had a couple of tough years. Leon Spinks came into the picture and took the title away from Ali and lost it back to Ali all within a matter of six months. It was the shortest time anyone held the title. The 1972 Olympics created a couple oi' world-wide superstars competing for the big one, the gold medal. Mark Spitz, who was one of them, managed to come home with seven golds in the swimming competition. Little Olga Korhut stole many hearts as she showed her charms in the gymnastic events. The 1976 Decathlon winner was Bruce Jenner, which made him The World's Greatest Athlete.
