HISTOIQY THE JUNE 1930 Class is one of the largest classes ever graduating from Lincoln High School. In fact, there are one hundred sixty- eight students leaving the ancient portals that have watched over them for four years. The June '30 class has many students that have taken part in all the activities around school. The President of the Student-Body, Bolton MacMahon, or better known as Red, is one reason that our assemblies have been so full of pep this term. Bill Benston, as Chairman of the Athletic Board, has a habit of telling everyone how they would do it in Seattle. Just the same, Bill's ac- complished a lot around here. Mary Bohoskey is not only associate- editor of the Class Cardinal, but she also portrayed very well the part of Julia Winters in the .class play, The Poor Nut. Bill Caldwell, our famous sportsman, is well known as one of the Railsplitters. As president of the Girl's League this term, Elizabeth Coughlan ends her many activities in Lincoln. The June '30 classes' president, Bob Catlin, is an all 'round man in sports and club activities. Betty Cameron is one of the most popular girls in school, and has held many student-body and club officers. Billy Blitz held the important office of managing editor of the Class Cardinal. Sheldon Attix made himself useful as stage hand and runner in the class play. Minnie Berg again won honors in the singing contest in Forest Grove. It may not be known, but Lincoln has a typing whiz -Lillian Gass: she's willing to type for most anyone. Lillian's brother, Oscar, keeps the faculty busy with his philosophical views. As both student body treasurer last term and class treasurer this term, Billy Failing knows his money. Leon Greene's audacious new name, Magpie, was procured during the tryouts for The Poor Nut. Isaac Donin knows his game, believe it or not. Jack Dees has ably handled the finances of the school as student body treasurer this past term. He, also, knows the intricacies of finances. Alan Davis as business manager of the Class Cardinal, has always been active in student-body activities. Lois Floyd interpreted the part of Margie, the sympathetic admirer of the Poor Nut himself, Merwin Houghton. Dick Goldthwaite's name has always been well known to everyone about school. He's a great sportsman, and an able sports writer for the bi-weekly Cardi- inal. The Queen of Rosaria, Caroline Hahn, has almost made Lincoln seem like a royal palace. Caroline's unassuming and charming ways are a pleasure to us all. Forbes King, another Red, is not only a great track man, but last term, he was president of the student-body, and an active member of several clubs. Anne Jubitz, vice-president of , ami QE Wish the student-body, has always taken an active part in everything going on in school, as well as being the inseparable friend of Mary Lyons, another Booster of all activities in school. The secretary of the stu- dent-body, Marguerite Hamilton, has been an important member of school clubs. Jane Lowe as secretary of the June '30 class, and Mary Mayes, as vice-president, have both been active in school. Virginia Nelson, otherwise known as Ginny, is one of the members of the Cardinal Carolers. Bertram Schatz, as Doc Spurney, Barbara Whipp, as Betty, and Margaret Spencer, as Helen in The Poor Nut, all showed their dramatic ability exceedingly well during the three performances. Dick Neuberger has always been well known around school, and now as Editor of the Class Cardinal, he is again showing his writing ability. Allyce Haskell has been active in Girlis League affairs, and was the able property manager of the class play. Bernard Bob Sharff in his time was business manager of the regular Cardinal, and is now Editor of the Cardinal. Earl Hart had the complicated task of enumerating names and activities of the graduates. Bill Robb, the six-footer, needs no introduction to readers of the Cardinal. In fact, there isn't room to discuss all his activities. Jack Robertson, and Johnny Richardson are star basketball play- ers. Harold Pewtherer as Colonel in the class play, portrayed the nervous old man to perfection. Bill Mason and Allen Proctor are our famous artists around here. Fred Rothchild is literary editor of the Class Cardinal, and incidentally is a very fine pianist. Anne Wilson was vice-president of the student body last term, and played the part of Reggie in the Poor Nut. Bill West, cartoonist, and popular club- man, is graduating this term. Bill Zavin was booster and promo- ter of the Poor Nut. Alfred Davis, as business manager, is the reason for the advertisements in the regular Cardinal. Thus ends the history of the class of June, 1930, and may it ever remain in the minds of all students. CLA!! WILL We, the June Class of 1930, A. D., of Lincoln high school, in the city of Portland, in the county of Multnomah, in the state of Oregon, a11d in the United States of America, do hereby leave this will: To the school in general, we do bequeath our sweet and simple reputations. It is a clever college comedy by J. C. and Elliot Nugent. The Poor Nut, skillfully interpreted by Merwin Houghton, is an earnest biology student, brilliant in science but dumb in society. After falling in love with a picture of Julia Winters, a lovely co-ed who was chosen Miss Wisconsin, he starts writing her letters picturing himself as a big fratermty man and a great athlete. When Julia Winters, played by Mary Bohoskey, comes to Ohio State for the track meet she flnds John Miller, the Nut, only a simple boy with a chronic inferi or1ty complex Comedy mterest was supplied by Leon Greene and Bob Day, as Magpie and Heeb, two 'hey hey boys of the university Other play ers who were outstandlng 1n their parts are B111 Robb, as the coach Bertram Schatz, as the tralner, Wilson Dodd, as Willie Pierce, Glen Hendricks, as Spike Hoyt Constance Roth the dramatic coach deserves much credlt for maklng such a great success of the play if V K' , 1, . ,,, y' x Zark, r Aw- jx. Won't you please make Bud get out? He's in my make- up box again and making fun of me. Bud,', Mrs. Morgan called, leave your sister's things alone. And Bud, please .come down here a minute. I want to speak to you. As Stanley Morgan, better known as Bud, .came down the stairs, Mrs. Morgan looked up at her tall college student son and smiled. Bud, I doubt if you'll ever grow up. At times I'm inclined to think you are movie struck, too. From the way you like to daub your face up with those make-up things of June's it looks suspicious to me. ' Bud grinned. Wel1,,' he said, I suppose I oughtn't to tease her so, but she acts so silly. Gee,'she walks like Greta Garbo, or thinks she does, and itis disgusting the way she tries to imitate everyone she sees. Don't worry. I wouldn't act that way on a bet. At that moment June walked in. She was a typical high-school girl, tall, slender, and pretty. She was very attractive in her light summer clothes. Mother, do you know what happened to that old pink dress you said I could have? The magazine had a picture of a soft pillow made from one of the star's old dresses, and it looked so easy I thought I'd make one like it. Oh mother, don't you suppose that Dad could possibly move to Hollywood if you won't let me go alone? I know it's hard to build up a lawyer's practice and all that, but I feel the need of expressing myself artistically and I know I .could get in easily. I measured myself and Pm almost exactly right for the movies, ac- cording to the magazine article. You know what Mr. Burroughs said about my photographing so well when he took my Senior pictures. Everybody said I did so well in the class play that the acting would be easy. At this point Bud snorted with laughter and went out, but June did not even notice him. I've practiced making-up and I just know I could do it. Why lots of girls- But to Mrs. Morgan this plea was an old story. Now, dear, she said, in her long-suffering, patient voice that seemed to June to be unnecessarily calm, We've gone over this time and time again. Your father has promised to take us all to Holly- wood this summer later for a long visit. Yes, I know all about how it takes time and that a visit won't be long enough, but I'm afraid Q.. W. Now, let's consider the sub- ject closed and you do down town and get me those things I told you about this morning. The long summer afternoon wore away when suddenly the door flew open and June burst into the room where her mother was rest- ing. Gone were June's movie-star voice, walk, and air. Oh mother! What do you think! One of the big movie com- panies has come to take a picture of Judge Bancroft's estate and they've put out a call for extras. I'n1 going down in the morning to see if they won't take me on. With that she flew down stairs to telephone her chum Elaine the exciting news. Elaine was not interested in joining the ranks of the movie stars, but she made an excellent and admiring audience for June's tales of the future. That evening Mrs. Morgan held an earnest conversation with her husband. Thus far June's movie star ambitions had confined them- selves to subscribing to numberless movie magazines and to buying a make-up box and practicing making-up and acting as much like a movie star as possible. However, with the advent of the moving pic- ture company, matters became more complicated. Mrs. Morgan wished to make matters as easy as possible for June, but her husband persuaded her to leave June alone and let her find out the truth about the situation. He realized that June would not learn except through experience. ' The next morning June had no need for an alarm clock. She changed her dress, recombed her hair, and put on and took off her hat numberless times. Finally, after much work and advice from the adoring Elaine, she started for the casting office. On her way she was joined by countless others and when she reached the office, she found a great line of people already there al- though it was still early. The long morning passed and when it was time for June to be in- terviewed it was almost noon. Mr. Thorn, the casting director, told her to report the following Monday. He was not especially sympa- thetic. After an interminable week-end, Monday finally arrived. She re- ported on the scene, and when she was told to report to be made-up, she produced her make-up box with a superior air and started to work. She was just completing what seemed to her to be the best make-up she had ever made when an assistant sauntering past gave her a peculiar look. Gosh, girlie, d'you think you're painting a barn? Better go and get someone who knows how to do it right, he offered. In spite of the fact that this remark dampened June's spirits, she had to admit that there certainly was an improvement when the pro- fessional had painted her face. A second disappointment came when she found that her part con- sisted of walking about the grounds of a manufactured country fair. She had always pictured herself as being immediately recognized as a genius. These people were so different from Elaine. Tuesday morning, June awoke feeling strangely stiff and tired The only glimpse she had had of the leading man and woman showed them to be disappointingly like the people she knew. However, she dragged out of bed and went to the lot again. Evidently she was not the only one who had been disillusioned, for there were many less extras that day. She was promoted to a scene where she was being chased by a little boy with a live snake. She was able to do this very realistically, for she had the average girl's horror of snakes. In the afternoon the director called to her and said that they needed her to take a much larger part and would she report to the costume mistress in the morning. They wanted her to take part in a costume ball. She was to play opposite a tall, good-looking college student with a very winning smile, she was told. The rest of the afternoon she spent in a dream, and in it the tall college student took a prominent part. That night at the dinner table Bud told the family with a sheep- ish grin that his was going to be one of the faces on the cutting room floor, too, but June was so absorbed in thought that she payed no attention to him. Wednesday morning June took special pains to make herself as attractive as possible in her costume of the Louis XIV period. The extras were instructed to pair off according to numbers and not to talk until after the unmasking. J une's heart fluttered when she saw her partner approaching. Why, June, aren't you going to the studio today? Whatever happened?', No, Elaine, I've decided that movies aren't my form of self-ex- pression. The sand sings songs of things across the seas, wistful melodies from the islands, gay tunes from sunny Madrid, laments from old Jeru- salem, weird chants from the jungle. The sea reveals the secrets of the deep. She washes Vagabond woods upon the beach to rest on their endless journey. She pours treasures from the depths of her bosom, delicate coral, milky pearl. Her gardens bloom in all their glory. Shy sea rose and wild avemone blossom gorgeously in the crystal beds. The old hermit gardner crawls largely through marine gardens. The west wind whispers secrets of misty China 5 of her oriental gardens, mysteries. It bears the scent of heavy incense, fragrant blossoms and spicy herbs. It shapes the shifting sands into forums of jade gods and sacred pagodas. The friendly sky smiles as she watches the summer clouds frolic across her face. But lo! the mischevious south wind drives those soft white clouds across the sky, and they bathe the earth in crystal tears. F1151 am. I iw' fm, - itfif 2313 Hs. Since the United States and Great Britain have the greatest popu- lation, it stands to reason, that they shall both receive an equal ton- nage. As I look over to the left, I see our worthy Japanese friend shake his head in horror, yes, even in dismay, at the thought of having an army of hot dogs invade his peaceful land. To him, my only answer can be, Taste one and decide for yourself! As I look toward the right, I see the honorable statesmen of Italy and France quarreling with one another. Italy demands that her tonnage be on a par with that of France. France counters, by saying that since she has a fleet on both the Atlantic and Pacific, she needs twice as many hot dogs at one point. Her men would be fed, while Italy's forces would gaze with glittering eyes, with watering mouths, with hearts filled with a lust, a desire for those savory morsels. This greed would incite them so greatly, that they would forget the cause for which they rallied, the country which they were to defend, and fight bitterly for hot dogs. But enough of this. To prove my statement that hot dogs are a gigantic international problems, I must bring two time worn phrases to their defense, One is the oft heard of and oft told of phrase saying that a dog is man's best friend. The other is another phrase worn threadbare through use, stating that the surest Way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Since the hot dog is a member of the canine race, he is entitled to be one of the best if not the best friend of man lf the second of my statements be true, then the hot dog is the verit- able key to a man's heart. Everything in the hot dog goes to make it great! First, let us consider its size. It is neither too long, nor too short, too fat or too thin. In fact, it is just right. They make a perfect entree for every meal, a perfect tidbit in between meals, and a perfect conclusion to a meal. In short, they give one that satisfied feeling. Now for their shape. They are, as you all know, oblong with rounded corners. This is, of course, just the right shape to slip down limi lil. , ' till tail G isli. one's throat. The rounded corners are guaranteed not to scratch, mar, or otherwise harm the delicate linings of your insides. In regard to its color, some of you might inquire why a hot dog isn't black like some of its brethren? The answer to that is that black is a mournful color and when one is consuming a hot dog he always is happy. Now why isn't a hot dog white? The answer to that is that white is an unearthly color, and try as hard as I will, I cannot con- ceive a ghost munching on a hot dog. Nay, I cannot picture a ghost eating even the shadow of a hotdog. But its present delightful shade, ah! I need say nothin of that. Last, but not least, a hot dog has great sense appeal. First, let us consider SIGHT. When one sees a hot dog he is inspired to write such poetry as: My heart leaps up when I behold a hot dog on the stand, Its ruddy cheek Its mustard sleek Oh, to clutch one fondly in my hand. As for the HEARING-Does not your heart thrill to the call of a hot dog vendor shrieking, Coney Island Red Hots! Only a dime! Only a dime! You are not human if little beads of perspiration do not glitter on your manly brow, and little chills play havoc with your spine when you hear that artful siren calling. Now comes the SMELL. Such an enticing smell wafted by a dainty fairy breeze. It brings the call of hunger in its wake. I cannot linger on the TOUCH. I can only say that a hot dog is a friend in need. Such a TASTE. Ah, mmm! Since the clock is tickingits way around to the lunch hour, I won't torture you by dwelling on its most beautiful characteristic. I can only say that it is the greatest achieve- ment of man. In conclusion, if you must return to your respective countries without accomplishing what you set forth to do,-Be nonchalant! Bite into a hot dog! T0 OUIQ FATHEIQS AND MOTHEl2I The dearest gift God ever gave To anyone on earth, He gave to us-Our parents-4 He gave us you, at birth. The students of Lincoln have forged ahead in al- most every field open to high school students. In dramatics, in ath- letics, in scholarship and in various novel activities Lincoln has led the field. The one act plays were a decided success, Aye! Aye! Sir was presented at the University of Oregon where it won first prize in competition with other schools of the state. The class play, The Poor Nut, had a large attendance and the entertainment fully justi- fied the support that it received. Miss Constance Roth directed these productions. The Cardinal athletic situation underwent a big improvement. The baseball nine, under the coaching of Wade W. Williams, crushed its old rival Commerce and scored victories over Benson Tech and Eugene high. The track squad, coached by Paul W. Heller, won the state title in the mile relay and placed third in the Oregon relay carni- val. The basketball five placed second in the Portland Interschol- astic league and twice defeated Washington, the defending champions of last year. The students were active in the field of music. Fred Rothchild, one of the school's real musicians, composed a number which he presented at one of the Junior Symphony concerts. The glee club journeyed to Forest Grove and won high honors in the state 'music contest. The club also presented an interesting operetta. The or- chestra and band again displayed some real talent and gave a nuanber of entertaining concerts. Caroline Hahn, Lincoln's candidate for Rose Festival Queen, was elected ruler of Rosaria and brought honor to her school. The May Day fete, presented by the Girls' Gym leaders under Mrs. Burke, pro- vided an entertaining afternoon for the student body. Scholarship received a high place in the school activities. The chemistry team took third in the state contest and the honor point society had 19 members-a greater number than ever before-a fav- orable indication of the interest shown in school activities and schol- arship. All of these achievements are substantial proof of the new spirit here at Lincoln. The students have been active during the past term and as a result, the school has taken a position in the front ranks. The work done in the past term is but a foundation upon which to build a new spirit at Lincoln high. It has been well started. The class of June 1930, whole-heartedly leaves the slogan, Carry On. r . Sergeant-at-arms Active service in and about the school has been the aim of all Hi-Y's during the past term. A service club has an opportunity to share in a great many different phases of school life, and the Hi-Y 'members have certainly performed varied duties. The most complete basketball programs ever seen at Lincoln were the lead-off on the club's activities. They were followed by the bi- yearly Frosh Yell Contest which was a huge success. Dean Jewell of the Oregon State faculty was secured for a very interesting assem- bly. Clean-up Lincoln Week, featuring an athletic turn-over, came in the early part of May. The boys went down to Seaside for the state-wide convention and returned rejuvenated after a wonderful week-end. The members entertained guests at a party and two dances which were declared high spots of the school's social year. x Alley fl Y ,Q K i X lil llig 2 EWR DI-I I L05 OFFICERS Mary Lyons ...............,............. ...........,....... ,....... ........... Miss Hunter, the advisor, was head of the group and under her supervision the girls took several trips and picnics. Regular meetings were held each week in which the members dis- cussed problems relating to school affairs. Service is one of the objects of the organization, they stand ready to assist teachers with school problems at all times. The Tri-Y ,club loses a large number of its members this spring, and the members remaining are devoting their time to the training of the pledges. Under their capable guidance the new group has undertaken several con- structive plans. Mr. Robert Clostermann, German consul, lectured to the students, and the club has learned several songs and stories. Curtis and Agnes E. Peterson. The production starring Minnie Berg, of Lincoln, and co- starring Vergil Day and Merwin Dant, of Benson, was a complete suc- cess from every angle. A large cast of principals, including Mary Gayle Dawson, Grace Burley, Frances Booth, Eleanor Camp, Virginia Nelson and Carol Williams from Lincoln and an equal number of boys from Benson, together with a chorus of 60 voices, supported the three stars. High lights of the opera were the brilliant musical effects, inirthful librette, delightful costumes, and elaborate stage setting. The complete stage set was made in the shops at Benson and painted by the Lincoln art department under the able supervision of Miss Halvorsen. The opera proved to be a splendid vehicle for the talents of the various principals, the lovely solos, duets, trios and sextettes bringing out the full beauty of Minnie Berg's soprano, and the de- lightful romantic tenor of Vergil Day- Merwin Dant proved to be a comedian of the higher type. The opera was produced by Waldemar Hollensted, musical director for both schools, with the assistance of Miss Constance Roth, as dramatic coach. UNE ACT DLAYS The One-act plays, presented under the direction of Miss Constance Roth, were outstanding and received praise from dramatic critics. The plays put on were The Wedding, Aye! Aye! Sir, and The Flying Prince. All three were outstanding, Aye! Aye! Sir was presented at the University of Oregon Where it Won the gold cup awarded annually to the high school play that is judged to have the greatest merit, both in regard to acting and scenery effects. Very fine acting and coaching combined to make this play the success it Was. Warren Gram, as the navigator, was the outstanding character. Warren was ably supported by Bill Benston, Bill Forestel, Ted Kar- fotias, Roscoe Nelson, George Hopps, and Harry Hoard. The Flying Prince, a very imaginative play, was also well re- ceived. Much of its success is due to the Work of Eileen Palmer, as the Princess and Ben Wildman, as the Flying Prince. These two were assisted by Bill Zavin, Curtis Strong, Anne Wilson, and Mary Bohoskey. The Wedding, was the funniest of all. The clever farce of both Wilson Dodd and M. Houghton kept the action of the play going. Virginia Root and Charles McCullough did all that could be expected to help make the play a success. 4,31 ! Ly? V' ., I 1.1-,,.-N- J- Q 5 E xvg Xf i f 5 l ? F s i r L E l l F '. Wade W. Williams coached the Cardinal diamonders for the first time and deserves commendation for his work. The boys were swamped by Franklin in the opener under a 15-to-3 score. Roosevelt pushed the Cardinals farther into the basement by winning, 17 to 11. Things looked bad for the Lincolnites when they went up against the veteran, hard-hitting Commerce team in the next contest. But the Stenogs' clouting tactics failed to waiver the Rail- splitters, and Ike Donin held the Commerce bats in checkg all of which spelled a 10 to 8 win for the lowly Cards-lowly no longer after this stirring dope reversal. Wally Stout, Bill Mason, Jack Robertson, Dick Goldthwaite and all the rest featured the Lincoln attacking force. Lincoln failed to deliver in the pinches and Jefferson nosed out a 3-to-2 victory. Grant took advantage of Lincoln misplays and won, 6 to 4, and Washington also capitalized upon Cardinal errors to crash out a 16-to-10 triumph. The Cardinals revived and came back in the final league game to defeat Benson, 7 to 5. It took the Lincoln outfit 10 innings to turn the tide of victory but the Railsplitters took the Techmen down the line to avenge last seasonis loss to Benson. Ike Donin hurled the Cards to a win over the Mechanics and Glenn Patch, Dick Goldthwaite, Sam Robb and Jimmie Spassov did the hitting. The Railsplitters played ag pre-season game against Eugene high, champ of four districts and conquerer of the University of Oregon frosh team. The Eugene record failed to daunt the steamed-up Lincoln Limited and the Lane County invaders were defeated, S to 2. Donin held the opposition to three hits, while his teammates were cracking out safeties in the pinches. Jack Robertson was outstanding at first base for the Cardinals and Dick Goldthwaite hit the ball hard. Isaac Donin had lots of stuff on the ball and showed to advantage under fire. Letters were earned by the following men: Captain Dick Goldthwaite, Jack Robert- son, Ike Donin, Bill Mason, Wally Stout, A. Alexander Macken, Jimmy fRacehorseJ Spassov, Forrest Bryant, Al Semmelroth, Louis Rosen- blatt, Milton Potter, Sam Robb and Glenn Patch. The school showed its interest in the baseball squad by purchas- ing shares of stock that were issued to finance the season. The students gave their hearty support and the team reciprocated by clos- ing the season with a whirlwind finish that aroused the enthusiasm Of its backers. 2 5 w il, 'i E ii 5 ff 3 Y. fn W2 14.5 Y L lf? The outfit had its big day at the University of Oregon Relays at Eugene, had mediocre suc- cesses at Oregon State College and in the City relays, and was a mi- nus quantity in the city track championship meet. Paul W. Heller, coaching the Cardinal runners for the second time, sent the squad through a much more successful season than it had last year. Grant was the big shot in the state and won every meet of major importance, with Franklin, as usual. grabbing second place honors. Charles Fyock, Franklin sprinterg Norman Daniels. Grant vaulterg Ray Dempsey. Washington milerg Skeet O'Connell. Commerce jumper, and Bobby Grayson, Jefferson hurdler, were the outstanding perform- ers in the city. The Cardinals walked off with third place honors in the Oregon relays and also took first place in the featured event-the mile relav. Robert Patrick took the Railsplitter baton the first 440 yards. his brother, Bill, increased the Lincoln advantage in the net relay. and Milo Walters, the new runner from Iriquois, stepped out to forge way ahead of the other state teams. Forbes King, captain of the squad, ran a beautiful race as anchor man of the quartet and his long stride and fast gait brought Lincoln out in front. Sam Schleifer, Lynn Burns, Harold Myers, and Ed McLaughlin, won a third place in the two-mile relay. Louis Hefler, Bob Patrick, Bob Catlin and King, captured another third place in the 440-yard relay. Only two Lincoln runners won individual points in the city cham- pionship meet. Bob Patrick took third in the 440 and Harold Myers took a second in the 880-yard run. Myers was boxed at the start, but picked up to step out ahead of the field and easily take second. The Patricks, McLaughlin, Myers and Rusty Allemang return next season to form the nucleus of another team. All of the cinder squads Grant included, will be hit hard by graduation this year. Taken as a whole the Lincoln track season was a successful one and the rapid improvement of the team gives hopes for real point-gatherers in the future. BBW! Williams is looking for a new train crew to take the 1930 and 1931 sections of the Limited down the Portland interscholastic league runway. Leading the list of those who leave the ranks is Bill Robb, conductor of the Limited, and captain of the 1929 football eleven. Bill was a unanimous choice for all-,city tackle last season, and his dynamic leadership often steadied a faltering team. Robb earned his letter in the discus and was on the basketball team. Dick Goldthwaite, fireman, is another to graduate. Dick was captain of the 1930 baseballers and an all-city choice at third base. He earned letters in football and basketball. Isaac Donin, the fun- loving dark-haired boy who is the whatnot, has also affixed letters in three sports to an overworked sweater. Ike was an all-city basketballist in 1929 and 1930, and was a star pitcher on the base- ball team. Donin also earned an L as quarterback. Bob Catlin, Class prexy, who lead the attack in the Benson game when the Cardinals turned into the Lincoln Limited, is another to thin the ranks. Forbes King, star track speedster and 1930 cinder captain, will forsake Lincoln to attend Sta.nford. Jack Robertson is depriving the log cabin of his afternoon ambles through the halls. Speed was for three seasons the outstanding center of the city and his work was a big factor in the success of the basketball five. At first base his great work led the baseball team to many a victory. Bill Mason, the star front-court performer on the basketball outfit, is another to graduate. He has also won two letters as second baseman. Milo Walters , the blonde Indian, is a basketball and track veteran, and Johnny Richardson has won two letters on the baseball and basketball machines. Bill Benston is also a two-sport letterman, having annexed awards in basketball and football. Others who are helping to deplete the train crew of the Lincoln Limited are Bill Coldwell, football and track, Glenn Hendricks, football, Louis Hefler, track, and Sam Schleifer, track. Bob John- son of tennis fame and Mary Lyons, girls tennis, are minor sport letter earners to graduate. Dick Neuberger, baseball manager, and for the past three years announcer of the Limited who called out publicity dope, will leave the ranks. Billy Blitz, general athletic manager, and Bertram Schatz, the comedian trainer, are graduat- ing. Other managers to leave are Alan Davis, basketball, Sheldon Attix, baseball, and Leighton Roy, track. - gm -. ' 'vki' . -' ' x A - -1 QL. X - , .1--R,-1, .,e .,'1 .' , gvvlifn' . The conduct of all L men is checked carefully by the organization and any boy not living up to the ideals of the club, after due deliberation, is dropped for a period. . The club endeavors to keep up a high standard of scholarship among J, its members with the result that Lincoln athletes are among the best scholars in school. Creating a proper school spirit, helping freshmen boys with their problems, and inspiring a higher type of sportsmanship on the field and in the classroom have been other aims of the club. The membership of the Order of L includes all boys who have earned major letters or who have been city champions in some r minor sport. The club holds regular meetings in Room B on Wednes- ' day mornings. Discussions are held on every phase of athletic prob- gl leans that confront our school.
