“TARNISH THE SILVER Homecoming this year was October 2- 6th. The week followed the Homecoming Theme, “Tarnish the Silver, Polish the Gold. Soccer and football games, royalty, the pepfest, and the door decorating con- test helped to make the week a success. Kicking off the week’s activities, the boy’s varsity soccer team won their Home- coming game against Kennedy 3-1. Thurs- day afternoon, Steve Albers and BarbSch- mit were crowned king and queen at the coronation ceremony. Homecoming ’78 came to a climax on Friday. October 6th. The day began with the first hour door decorating contest, won by Mr. Hutton’s room. The 1978 royalty was served their royal meal in the cafete- ria, fourth hour prior to the pepfest. The Homecoming pepfest followed a 50’s theme. Cheerleaders and Bruincttcs got into the spirit by dressing in their best 50’s garb. Doug Taplin was named “Mr. Ugly Legs , the result of a student vote. At 6:30 p.m. crowds filled the Lincoln Stadium to cheer the football Bears to their fifth victory in the Lake Conference South Division. The team prepared to “Tarnish the Silver”, and did just that. After taking a decisive lead in the first half, the Bears conquered the Jefferson Jaguars 42-0! This victory gave Lincoln the title of Bloomington City Football Champions. After the football game Lincolnites rushed home and returned in formal attire for the Homecoming Dance. The band “Orion” provided music to enhance the theme of “Starry. Starry Night. King Steve and Queen Barb reigned over the dance to help bring Homecoming 1978 to a close. 14 When we “Polish the Gold we really polish the gold!!
