Pete Mcrrifield and Anne Winum. 77-78 Royal. A hush falls over the crowd and the lights dim. Coronation for the 1978 Homecoming royalty begins. The Lincoln Continentals opened the ceremonies with a “Broadway Spectacu- lar” medley. Next the Concert Choir sang the theme song of Coronation and the Homecoming Dance, “Starry, Starry Night.” All the music in the program was excellent; our choirs and instrumentalists were under the direction of Steve Cramer. The Bear mascot led the royal proces- sion, holding the Homecoming torch high in the air, sending a reverent murmur throughout the crowd. Under the royal arch came the Spirits of Homecoming, Theresa Anderson and Craig Pearson. Following were Sophomore Attendants Kris Thompson and Charlie Wicbc. Junior Attendants Gcncll Wcstcrlund and Bob Engclhart took their turn next on the tinsled runway. The senior candidates for king and queen proceeded in pairs to the foot of the throne. The king candidates were Steve Albers, Barry Post. John Lem- ley, Mike Leeman, and Dan Saunders. Candidates for queen were Kris Dykstra, Mary Gcisler, Sandy Hero, Barb Schmit, and Jenny Winum. With the Seniors in place on the royal platform, the 77-78 king and qupen stepped into the spotlight. King Pete Mcrrifield and Queen Anne Winum took their final walk and ascended to their thrones. The royal pages, Leslie Anderson and Tony Gale, brought forth the names of the 78-79 king and queen. After a sus- penseful pause. Steve Albers and Barb Schmit were crowned. Hugs and tears wel- comed the Royal Couple who then donned their robes and watched the rest of thepro- gram. The Concert Choir provided the music as the Bruinettes performed the traditional dance to “Have You Never Been Mel- low. The choir sang “Hark I Hear the Harps Eternal to wrap up the musical presentation. All spectators in the gym rose to honor The Royalty. Barb and Steve took their first royal walk as they made their way out into the foyer where parents and friends shared their congratulations and happiness in this most unforgettable moment. 11 Theresa Anderson and Craig Pearson, the Spirits of Homecoming.
