After all, open your eyes And look. Just feel free to reach out, Give it a try without feeling the doubt So hey. I’m going to try. Reach out, and not fear. I’m going to smile and not cry. This time I’m not going to shed a tear. For once I care. I really care. So giving life another chance is only fair. Cindy Walden Optimism 3 Surprise! Something planned, without being told— that secret between friends, keeping you from finding out. And everytime you walk by your friends, they just smile and say Just wait” just wait for what, I wonder? I really can't guess, so I just have to wait. - The minutes clock on by. the hours and the days. Bell after bell rings, Many a time I look at my watch I wind it, I look at it. I rewind it. Tick . . . tick . . . tick ... Life continues as I wait. But what am I waiting for? My eyes focus on time, anticipation awaits, so I stop waiting long enough to relax. I lay down, in grubs and curlers, munching, half asleep the door bell rings anticipation. Just wait?” Oh no. Surprise! Friends are like that. Cindi Walden 6 Tears Tears Why is it that at times I have to cry? And why can’t my eyes stay dry. I can't say that I enjoy my sobs . . so loud. But I'm not embarrassed and yet not too proud. To admit I'm human enough to cry. I won't hold tears back, I can't explain why Depending upon the situation that occured that day. The tears begin many a different way. Sometimes I'll be depressed and down. And tears will follow my expressed frown. And then there’s times I walk around and mope. But really believe me I try to cope. I know my tears won't always stay. Because tomorrow I'll smile . . Cuz it’s another day. Cindl Walden Tears 7 AND A SMILE Does anybody care when the sun shines? or when the birds sing? or when there is a rainbow? or do we just dwell upon inflation, politics, status, money and the stockmarket? But let me tell you that a smile can say more than a book, magazine, t.v. program, or newspaper. A friend can mean a lot more than hearing about riots, murders, theft and crime. A friend can bring a feeling like a blanket does in winter. A friend is one to share life with, to take a walk and talk with; to be with nature and feel the sun upon your back with, to hear the birds chirp and feel the breeze blow through your hair. That’s all natural, as a friend brings a natural feeling, And A Smile! Cindi Walden More Secure I FEAR the silence so like a stone please don't leave me all alone. If only a friend would give me a call, the world would feel less likely to fall. I FEAR the frown upon my face, as I realize life is at a constant pace. I'm AFRAID once again to hear good bye is it ok to fall in love and care?? To want to touch, to give and to share? But I'm SCARED, if I love him. he'll object, and once again I'll feel like a reject. I don't want to be all alone. as time has passed. I know I've grown. I've grown to know how short fears last, and tomorrow they are a thing of the past. And tomorrow I'll be less afraid to FEAR and I'll be much more secure. In a year when the nation's unemployment levels reached higher than 7.1% and more than 5.7% in Minnesota alone, students, too. had trouble finding jobs. The years 1974 and 1975 brought thousands of jobless people to their knees, students being no exceptions. Those who did hold jobs performed a large variety of duties. Many common employment jobs were held by students, some students displayed a talent for very unusual jobs or jobs in unusual surroundings. MOEA member. Dr. Stever has helped develop our school into an organized friendship system. First, he created the advisor-advisee system which gave the student a chance to get to know a teacher as a friend rather than a dictator who just dishes out grades. This system’s purpose was to create better relations between teachers and students. Next, he made a giant step toward school spirit by placing pep tests at noon hour which gave the students and the teachers more of a chance to get involved in them. Dr. Stever who likes working here, claims he feels very much at home with both the students and teachers. He enjoys getting to know students and their families and wants them to feel at ease with him. not as a principal but as a friend. 34 Dr. Stover Wide World of Words Dear Lincoln: Soon the year will be gone, and I'll find myself travelling back home to Argentina. But all the things that I’ve learned here; not about Math or Physics, but about the United States, the people, the customs I'll never forget. I will remember for ever the fantastic friends I have here at Lincoln; a great school. Like A.F.S. says: Walk together, talk together . Adios Eduardo Temkin Dear Bears: The only name that can describe Lincoln Is. LINCOLN , a great guy's name for a great school. Before I came here everybody was telling me about bad experiences and they said that I should take It easy, but there was nothing except good memories for me. Once I caught up with the rest of the class, they were managing to go down the hill the right way. Finally after an IV hours, our instructor threatened us by saying we were going to the top of the hill, so up to the top of the hill we went. Possibly when participants and publicity increases then the pressure of winning will also become stronger. As usual Lincoln attendance was kept to a minimum of 150 or less while other schools especially crosstown rivals demonstrated their school spirit by supporting their girls athletics with large cheering crowds. The Bears under the excellent coaching of LeRoy Martln- son breezed through Lake Conference competition with all-0 record. The region B meet proved to be one of suspense though, with no squad taking first in any event (jum- ping—2nd. cross country—2nd. and slalom—4th) yet capturing the title overall, this qualified the team for the state meet. At the state meet only one Bear (Brian Strand) finished the almost impossible course (nearly two-thirds of state competitors did not finish the course) thus putting the squad in 4th place. The jumpers finished with a somewhat disappoin- ting 4th. Then the sun shined thru, the cross-country squad placed number one. with Fran Koch, placing 2nd individually. With that the Bears finished the season as number three in the state. Row 1: Earl Kltto. Fran Koch. Rick Anderson. Row 2: Bruce Temte. Mike Adams. Bill Kenny. John Morrison. The girls cross country ski team was a young and entirely new team com- prised mostly of sophomores and juniors with little or no experience. Through much hard work and gain- ed talent the girls comprised a successful record of 6 wins and 4 loses going on to take second place in districts and seventh place in regionals. Outstanding perfor- mances were given by Carrie Ander- son and Julie Craven, both sophomores. The team also ex- perienced a first for Lincoln—its coach Mary Villella had to take maternity leave toward the end of the season. A spectator cheers Thad Brlol to the finish. The Bear's swimming team did a good job this year with a young team of three seniors, four juniors, four sophomores, and twelve freshman. The teams times are much improved over last year making the meets a lot closer. For the first time in three years. Lincoln sent someone to the state meet. Lincoln's co- captains Todd Laverty and Tim Daly went to state this year, in the 500 yd. Freestyle and 200 yd. Freestyle. Boys Swimming 95 As a student and spectator. I feel the hockey team did very well. Although we didn’t make first in the state we had a very good season (23-1). I feel that in every game a certain cheering crowd led them on to the playoffs. In fact the Bears had a good chance to place in the state tournament had they not suffered a bitter defeat to Cooper in the region playoffs. Junior Steve Barry shoots over Richfield op- ponent. Sandra 126 174 Closing Which step into the future will I take? I wonder often what of my life I will make. I have spent many a break here and there. Mostly standing in the foyer NEXT to the Bear. I have grown and matured in the past 3 years. While I think back I can joke about my Sophomore years. When I was a Sophomore I felt so young, I didn’t drive yet I still managed to have fun. When I thought it unfair not having study hall. I couldn’t wait to be a Junior in the fall. The finals came and went; school let out in June. There were many things to do, like shoot the moon. Try my first cigarette, and drink a beer or two. That summer was filled with memories none too few. Summer ended buying clothes that were in And not too excited about school again to begin, Just wishing and hoping to keep grades steady I went back to Lincoln, feeling a little ready. It was now my turn to really give a tease. And I found burning” on Sophomores a real breeze. Junior year was one of my very best. It was like I was always preparing for a test. Constantly I was learning what life was all about. There was more than grammar, math. etc. there was doubt, And then I learned doubt is another word for fear. One way to solve that was sit and enjoy a beer. In my Junior year, there were parties all the time. People doing their own thing and me doing mine. I learned how to accept every day. As a learning experience in its own way. There were times I was down, sad and low, But yes there were 20-1 good times that I know. My Senior year went by super fast, Everyone was excited about it being our last. So finals came around once again, And we sat around saying remember when. Yes, the good old days of skipping class, And then worrying about being excused by a phony pass. Many crazy things in our locker we hung, And I’ll never forget our school song, many times sung. There were games we’d lost and games we won, And the crazy things afterwards we’d done. Many a experience we’ve all had here, Thinking back as we complete our last year. School, just what does it mean? I’ve done my time, and I can’t grieve, And I say good-bye” as I leave.
