MICHAEL VICKER MA MICHAEL WERNER Hwa mm It is With a heavy heart and utmost admiration that we dedicate this page to a guy we were all proud to call our friend, Britt Q. Syderski. Britt was a man among men. As a member of the 43-man squamish team, his leadership was only excelled by his exper- tise with the foosenagel tboth on the field and abroadl. Britt always made sure that getting up for a game was not just a psychological phenomenon. The teams admira- tion for Brittls ability was demonstrated not only when they elected him captain of the team, but also when 6-8 weeks into the season they all contributed to the Britt Syderski Puerto Rican Vacation fund tthis was before the recent Supreme Court rul- ingl. Britt was very tinlactive as president of the Lincoln chapter of the Apathy in our Schools Society . Britt became a favorite of the Lincoln office staff because of his uncanny ability to extricate himself from potentially hazardous classroom situations. Britt was remembered by his teachers as a quiet student, never uttering a word, even when called upon. In closing, we the friends of Britt would like his most famous phrase to be remembered in your heart for years to come: iiAsk not what you can do for your country, but what you can do for Britt Q. Guidance was provided under the leadership of President Dave Pederson, along with the other members of the Executive Council. Activity began early, as the council took quick action in getting the break back, replacing the furniture, and set- ting up a mock presidential election. A crisis arose because of difference in opinion concerning the ttUgly Girl contest. It was finally resolved in compromise as the ttOdd Couple contest. The major project of the year proved to be the information-gathering concerning budget cuts and teacher negotiations. Maybe not so much academically, except English, of course, but the experience of meeting new people. My year here has given me a lot of friends. When I ever had a period when I was depressed there were always friends to help me out. So I can with all my heart say: Thank you w. 53mm 08mg Good Old Abe, I look at myself when I was a year younger, and wonder- ing how Ild be on the way back to my country, and I look now at what Ive been living here, during this school year. Lincoln? For me it means some words like Corridors, Library, Mah-Quh, Yearbook, Cheerleaders, and Brui- nettes Ulm not a Frenchman for nothingD, Pep-fests, Bears, Auditorium, Drama, Homecoming, ltPsykeil, ttPhys, and Anthro , Humanities, Social Studies, and so many other things . . . but things arenlt much if you donlt have peo- ple. And I know it is thanks to people here I have lived this Adventure, and got the best out of it. When I came here, I was a Stranger in a Strange Land, But Iim not anymore. Back home, when they meet me at the Airport, theylll think Ilm crazy with my farmerls overalls and my funny accent, and some difficulty in finding my French words . . . but Illl smile, and be proud of it. Fresh Outlook and Face- Lift for the Oldest Paper in Bloomington ttThe Mah Quh is the result of the staffers whom I consider to be the most ere- ative in the twenty-plus years I have been in Bloomington and Llncoln ngh School. Those were the words of Princiapl Ray Hanson in a letter to the edltor in the December Mah-Quh, and indeed 72-73 was a year of great change for Lin- colnts newspaper. Under the leadership of Editor Chris Gauker and the new advisor Miss Diane Bruhn', the Mah-Quh became a 10-12 page monthly magazine of innovative lay- outs and in-depth reporting. The Mah-Quh became a stand-out among high school papers by reaching put to student-related concerns in the community as well as delving into the h1dden corners of our own school. --?--- 2 Q 1972-73 Mah-Quh Staff: Row 1: Scott Schuman, Chris Gauker, tEditor-in-ChieS. These three athletes led the team to a second place finish in state standings. Room 207 was occupied by a very mild mannered man to the unaided eye, whereas, in reality, this standard man of the class- room was an excellent cross country coach, holding honors not only through his team, with their 1972 region and state stand- ings, but also for his personal awards as Minnesota State Cross Country Coach of the Year,, and founder of iiTrack-O-Ramafi the largest one day track event in the nation. Mr. Ochs may have looked mellow on the outside, but on the inside, he was ibear gutsi. 133 134 FOOTBALL 1972 SCOREBOX We They Jefferson 12 14 Kennedy 15 21 Armstrong 20 22 St. Louis Park 7 0 Edina West 11 21 Robbinsdale 12 15 Lindbergh 43 O Mound 36 7 'c, 2 m: r 4 w : 2 2 44253 2' 2V 2 'f :1 223 . 1 fan , 55349 2222 ..- 1;; I - . .J' . i ' A 5- ' z. ,m ,4'2 .r . Facing the difficult task of rebuilding, the team encountered the season with determination and forbearing charge. After a grim start the Bruins showed the Lake Conference teams that they meant business. Coming close to the leaders of the league, the Bruins won and tied the rest of their games, which eventually lead them to the sub-regions, where they lost to Cooper, the team that, three days earlier, Lincoln had defeated. Individual standouts were Kurt Schuman, Todd Kelsey, Ken Styrlund, and Ierry Kesler.
