Serving as mediator between the faculty and students, the Student Council is the most important progressive organization in Lincoln High School. A representative group under the faculty supervision of Miss Frances Nairn, the council is composed of thirteen members of the student body. Twelve are elected each year while the vice- president of the recedin year becomes president thus taking Office automatically. ihteresteg in the work ot other councils throughout the state, four Lincoln high delegates traveled to Sheboygan, Octo- ber 20 to attend the two day Wisconsin State Student Council con- venion. Our local organization was host to the annual district con- vention, April 28. Besides their regular Wednesday morning meet- ing, the council carried out their routine work for the year including the elections, Homecoming management, enforcement of hall or- dinance, the winter noon hour program, and the necessary court sessions. Organized for the purpose of training individuals in the pattern of American democratic principles, the Student Council endeavors to solve all their problems in the manner set forth by their community, state, and national governments. Responsibility, initiative, perseverance, and leadership are among the qualities ot character acquired from an organization such as the Student Council. ,R-x , . x 5 X x ' f Y IOHN SCHUENEMANN DONNA BRAEGER MERLIN ABLEH I? uwa.'-.r:sas.-.'vsr:f1n:.e:-..-as GERALD RAASCH MARYLYN BACHTLE RICHARD BECKER KATHLEEN DALY SHIRLEY KAUTH WILLIAM IOHNSON at FRANK HILL JUDY orro JERRY PQLANSKY .+ -i A --5 F qs 1 l , X X w fl Q-Q 1 ' -?Q E - nb Y ' 'fi' L 'Q Q' - I- f ' FL V- Y , , H N R 4, -fl OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS .,7, Q1 Q , .,, m -car - Row Row Row Row 4-F. Foremost among the objec- tives of LINCOLN LIGHTS is the promotion of school spirit by informing the students of school news. Underlying this objective are the quali- ties of character which the active staff member acquires from staff work. Initiative, creative- ness, perserverance, dependability, coopera- tion and individuality - all become a part of a person's character when he engages in news- paper work. For the benefit of added news- paper education, four staff-members and Miss Mary O'Connell, faculty advisor, attended the National Scholastic Press conference in Chicago last fall. The club was originally organized to undertake such tasks as storing magazines, pasting magazines and books, typing new cards, and other odd jobs. Each member was required to put in one hour oi work each month. During the year meetings were held in the library where they worked, held a business meeting, and had refreshments. FRENCH CLUB The French Club's activities are carried on as a class project. The club has its meetings every other Friday during the regular class period. Oral reports on sections of France are then given by club members. The entire class ot ten members belong to the club. In December, the club gave a French dinner.
