Every thinlcing high school boy and girl wants to become an adult who is completely healthy. You wish to grow up to be a composed, reserved, well-informed and well-groomed personality not afraid to assume responsibilities and worlc hard. You want to be tolerant in all things, formulate your own opinions, and worlc for the common good. You want to grow to maturity with at least a recreational interest in such fields as art, music, reading, the out-of-doors, and handicraft. You wish to find your place in the adult worlc-a-day world and feel comfortable in it. You want to be happy and show it, What you thinlc and do during these high school days contributes greatly to your later realizatior' of these dreams. 7 BOARD OF EDUCATION D Y 1 Yi Brennan, Alfred Rember, W. All that power is static unless you malce it dynamic, creative, it partalces of the power from within. Those who have this energy can push on through new growth and new aspirations to an ever ex- panding life. - 2, - s 4:30 Monday Afternoon FACULTY MEETING Pa bsen Jaco I-4. C' hand Aa . Although Home Making is one ol the greatest professions vve have today, few people realize the necessity ol correct training in this held, The modern home-mal4er must be able to select foods containing the proper nutrients lor the health ol the members of the family, she must select equipment from the standpoint ol elliciency and economy, as vvell as attractiveness, and she must have the l4novvl- edge necessary to dillerentiate between synthetic and natural fabrics. This department helps young people to recognize and solve these problems. Benlcowslci -l-he Student Council Assists in the Government ol the School Student councils ol one form or another are carried on in a large number of high schools, and the movement toward such student government is rapidly increasing. lt is believed that, if students are ever to be ellicient in de- mocracy, they should start training themselves for it while they are in school. Qur Student Council is composed of each class president and two other representatives from each class. Cnly those students can qualify lor it who have an average ol at least 80 per cent in all subiects and who represent the ideals lor which Student Council stands. Student Council members and deputies appointed by them assist the teachers in maintaining order in the halls. The Council has the power ol trying all offenders who violate the regulations adopted by it. At the weelcly meetings of the Council the members discuss any problems which have arisen, malce suggesticins which might benefit the school, report otlenders and appoint those who are to be on duty the follow- ing wee . Qur Student Council was started in 1927 under the direction ol Mr. Ritchay. Miss Laperriere is its sponsor. II. J, Gazeley, J. Muehlstzin, E. Brenner, S. Kulinslci, D. Peterson, J. Benkowski I, P. When songs have been learned well enough to afford the members pleasure in singing them, it is their aim to pass that pleasure on to others. This is clone by singing for various groups in our city. Regular practices are held on Wednesday evenings at seven o'clock in the Music Room, with Mr. Newman directing. The boys are deeply grateful to the Choir Mothers for providing them with jackets so the club would be in uniform dress. The Glee Club participated in the All School Concert presented December IS, and frequently sang for service clubs throughout the city. Page 61 . AU Y X ' - X- ' 10 pix Ylabzggchnel Vewd .. Catlin The Ghost Returned Again the all-school play proved to be the highlight of the year's dramatic productions. With 320 College Avenue the vehicle for swiftly paced scenes, bright climaxes, and neat surprises, the cast and production staff of thirty-six students won cheering applause from a record breaking crowd. Early in the play Jim Goodrich, as Lee Macon, apparently was lcilled by one of his fellow students. Thereafter the action centered around an effort to determine the identity of the lciller. It was not until the closing lines of the play that the audience discovered, with the return of Lee, that the whole production was a play within a play and that the ghost had returned. The great expression of surprise throughout the huge audience in the field house was evidence that the cast had acted well. Not a bit dwarfed by the massive setting ol Aubrey l-lenry Allington's library, the cast built up each scene to a sparlcling climax. Carrying the burden of lines and action were two masters ol comedy, Ruth Ann Schroeder and Jaclc Simon, as Louise and Aubrey Allington. The roles ol butler, Sprules, and parlor maid, Simpson, had a fresh interpretation well given by Elaine Roselcrans and Peter Schanoclc. Mary Jane Collier slrilllully portrayed the tart Auntie Benita. High comedy in line and business grew from the happy trio composed of Julianne Arpin, as Jean Everard, Jim Mayer, as l'lenry, and Bill Dittman, as the true George Maitland. The characters of the serious-minded lawyer and the trite gardener were well done by Fritz Bossert and Clifford Reppen.
