COACH ROD WALDROUP ASS'T JOHN KOLASA 1986-87 Lady Patriots The Lady Patriots experienced a good season finishing the year with a record of 14 wins and 12 losses. This was a very respectable record considering the difficulty of their schedule and the fact that they were basically a young team, starting five underclassmen most of the year. The team was led in scoring by junior forward Dionne Givens with a 12.9 average. She also led the team in field goal percentage and free throw percentage with 55.5% and 43.2% respectively. She was named to the all- District and all area teams and voted this year Most Valuable Player by her teammates. Jill Baird, a junior guard, averaged 10 points per game and was second in scoring. She also was second in field goal percentage with 42% and in assists with 59. She was named to the all-District team and received the Effort and Defensive awards this year. Junior center, Danetta Miller averaged 5.4 points per game and 5.9 rebounds and blocked many shots. The team's only senior and captain Paula Rice averaged 5.5 points per game and was third on the team in assists with 50. She also contributed leadership to the younger players and was a partime starter. Cassandra Alcorn started this year for her first time and led the team in rebounding with 231, an average of 8.9. She also averaged 7.6 points and won the trophy for being the Most Improved Player. Maggie Cox started the final half of the season as a freshman and averaged 6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds. Stacy Bailey, a sophomore guard and partime starter led the team in assists with 65 and averaged 4.8 points per game. Also lettering for the Lady Patriots this year were juniors, Margaret Gander and Linda Rector. They also contributed in a good team effort. This team played well as a team and worked as a unit, although they had a lot of early distraction and things beyond their control, they improved greatly. 1 was very proud of their efforts and the way they worked in practice and on the floor in games. It was a very fun year. 1 enjoyed it and believe most of the players did also. The team will miss our Seniors Paula Rice (player) and Barbara Jacobs and Merry Cooper (stats). Next year, however, we are looking forward to an even better and more enjoyable year. 17 Coach Rod Waldroup
