The eleven seniors: Bobby Johnson, Wesley Cornett, Gary Dugger, Darrin Singleton, Kendall Sims, Troy Hogue, Don McCormack, Jason Aus- tin, Darrin Pendergraft, Rodney Alcorn and Jamie DeBord, have laid the groundwork in which to build from. 4s my first year as head football coach at LCHS, I couldn't have asked for a finer group of young men to work with. They are all winners on and off the field. Coach Larry Phillips Head Coach—Larry Phillips Assistant Coaches: Steve Sullivan, Bill Tharp, and John Kolasa. 8) Nice catch, Darin! 'bout time! STANDING: Jamie Middleton, Michael Bustle, Eric Isaacs, David Harris, Brent Ellis, Greg Alcorn, Steve Miller, and Jackie Godbey. David Harris Steve Miller The 1984-85 Patriots had a final record of 10 wins and 15 losses. We had the same problem that most teams experienced. That is we lost to some teams that we shouldn't have because we were not mentally ready to play. The lack of size and overall speed were also factors in some of our losses. However, I am extremely proud of this group of young men because they worked hard and never gave up. We started the season shooting a good percentage, but had trouble with turnovers. About the time we started playing better the bad weather set in. We postponed some games and had several practices canceled because of bad roads. By the time the weather got better we were down in percentage and up in turnovers. We did find ourselves late in the season and had a good district tournament. The outstanding win for Lincoln Co. was the one over Somerset. Later on they advanced to the state tournament from the 12th region. The Patriots were runners-up both in the C.K.C. Division II Tourna- ment and the 45th District. The varsity this year consisted of two seniors, five juniors, four sophomores and one freshman. The seniors were David Harris and Steve Miller. The juniors were Eric Isaacs, Billy Harris, Roy Gander, Mike Bustle, and Jeff VanHook. The sophomores were Neil Johnson, Chris Caldwell, Brent Ellis, and Greg Alcorn. Jason Todd was the only freshman. Coach Wilder 86 ... COACHES WRITE-UP The 1984-85 Lady Pats finished their season with a record of 9 and 13. This was definitely a rebuilding year for the Lady Pats after losing 4 starters from last years team. They had several accomplishments, however. They won six consecutive games and came in first in the Division II CKC Tournament. The girls progressed a lot this year and a lot of people gained valuable experience with ten girls lettering for the year. The Lady Pats Varsity was composed of 13 players including two Seniors—Jessica Board and Regina Hoover, two Juniors—Donna Morgan and Teresa Farris, four Sophomores—Kathie Southerland, who moved here late in the year from Lexington Layafette, Debbie Johnson, Paula Rice, and Tammy Mullins; and five Freshmen—Dionne Givens, Danetta Miller, Jill Baird, Margaret Gander and Linda Rector. We have most of these players back next year, and with a lot of work and dedication, they could have a good year. The players that received awards and honors this year were: Debbie Johnson—All CKC, All District, Team Most Valuable player, Best field goal %, Most rebounds. Regina Hoover—All District Jessica Board—Academic award Dionne Givens—Free throw percentage award Teresa Farris—Most assists Donna Morgan—Most improved player Jill Baird—110 percent or effort award We hope to have a good year next year and really need everyone's support and backing. BASEBALL Coaches: Bill Tharp, and Steve Ralston The Baseball Pats had a very good year with a record of 12 wins and 16 losses. The Pats were District Runner-up and went to the semi-finals of the Region, in which they lost to Laurel Co. 7-6. The Pats were a young team with only four seniors, 3 Juniors, 6 sophomores, and 7 Freshmen. They have a good nucleus of players returning for the 85-86' year. The success of this year's sea- son goes to the senior leadership which we had all season. Our seniors are as follows: Lewis Cummins, Darrin Pendergraft, Marty Young, and Jeff Sims. The following poem was written by Mark Adams, a junior at Lincoln County 1984-85, in her memory. It all happened so suddenly; there wasn't time to cry. And after the wreck was over, a young girl had to die. Why the wreck happened no one will ever know; but one thing is for certain— we will miss that girl so. She was so full of life and lived it to its best. She lived from day to day and didn't care about the rest. Why God has taken her is a mystery to everyone but I guess that He thought that her purpose in life was done. There will be a place in the hearts of all her family and friends, and we'll pray a tragedy like this will never happen again. The America's Junior Miss competition is a nationwide scholarship program to recognize, reward, and encourage excellence in our young women. At Mobile, Alabama, each year since 1958, it has selected the nation's outstanding high school senior girl from among the thou- sands who take part in all fifty states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Local contests are open to any high school senior girl. Where no local competition is con- ducted, at large candidates are considered at the state level. Local winners advance to the state competitions which determine the candidates for the National title. By presenting scholarships and other awards to Junior Miss participants, the program seeks to focus attention on the constructive achievements of youth, to encourage excellence, and to enkindle a sense of dedication to the future. At all levels of the Junior Miss program, judging standards and basis of selection are the same. The emphasis is on excellence in scholarship, personality, character, poise, physical well-being, creativity, and human relations. The following is a list of standards that the Junior Miss is judged on: Scholastic Achieve- ment, Judges Interview, Physical Fitness, Poise and Appearance, and Creative and Performing Arts. The following is a list of awards that the Junior Miss contestants receive: Spirit of Junior Miss Award, Physical Fitness Award, Poise and Appearance Award, Creative and Performing Arts Award, Scholastic Achievement Award, Second Runner-Up, First Runner-Up, and the Lincoln County Junior Miss.
