Time after time we have come to what we have thought To be the end of our roads. Still we have gone on being what we are. The differences between us, we have sometimes Overlooked, other times we have not. Many friends we will make, some we will lose, Others we will stand by forever. After we have gone, we will only be memories of What we have done—not what we should have done. The future brings many heartaches and misfortunes, Each we must face. There are those among us who will make it better Than others. But, each of us will be what has been meant for Us to be. Our memories shall be of our friends and so-called Enemies. We will look back with new eyes and see our mistakes. And the times we have had, whether good or bad. In the time between this, friends will have become Lovers, and lovers friends. Enemies will have become friends, Friends will have turned to enemies. Still there will be the common bond, We are the children of today, and the leaders of Tomorrow. Written by Jimmy Padgett 76 1984 SPORTS I 78 Front: Shaun Stull, Martin Bastin, Bobby Wilkinson, Allen Nicholson, jimmy Padgett. Back: Mick- ey Goodwin, Kenny Phoenix, Todd McGuffey, Tim Bell, and Robert Pelly. ACTION 79 80 Willie Hoskins Steve Sullivan Dennis Bellinger (absent) The Lincoln County High football team finished the season with a 5-6 record. Many people didn't expect this out of a fairly rebuilt team and a rookie head coach. Even though the Patriots had a losing season, they left a strong presence, and each team they played will remember their battle with the Patriots. 81 COACHES WRITE UP BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL KNEELING: Bobby Wilkinson and David Hiestand—Mgrs.; SITTING: Vic Wilkinson. Roy Gander, Kenny Phoenix, Jimmy Padgett. Billy Harris, and Jeff Lawhorn; STANDING: Mike Bussel. Steve Miller, Doug Goode. Mark Quinton. David Harris, and Eric Isaacs. SENIOR MEMBERS Kenny Phoenix. Jimmy Padgett, and Mark Quinton 82 VARSITY ACTION 83 The Patriots had a final record of 9-17 for the ’83-’84 season. Considering the fact that we had only one letterman back from the year before, it was a better season than the record indicates. Inexperience really hurt during the season, especially in the early going. We also had some key players out with injuries and other problems. The schedule the Patriots played was a little tougher than usual. We played four teams that were ranked in the top twenty-five sometime during the season. Three of these teams had a top five ranking during the season. As the season progressed experience started to show in our players; especially the younger ones. By tournament time we were a completely different team. In the district we lost to Danville by one point in the finals. In the regional tournament the Patriots did an excellent job. We upset last year’s regional champion McCreary Central. We then had an outstanding game against Lau- rel Co. before finally losing in the last quarter. Few people picked us to finish that high in the region. Coach Wilder 84 ACTION CONT. 85 GIRLS VARSITY 1983-84 LADY PATS!! The 1983-84 edition of the Lady Pats finished their season with a nine and fourteen record. This wasn’t as good as we ex- pected returning several players from last year. The Lady Pats finished runners-up in the district, after winning their district the past two consecutive years, to Boyle County in a hard fought, three overtime game by one point. The Lady Pats fin- ished their season at Laurel County falling to Russell County in the opening round of the Regional tournament. The team fought their way through several adversities this year which affected their record. Yet I feel they played very hard and practiced hard and gave one hundred percent in their games. We had several young players get a lot of experience this year, with a junior and a sophomore starting and with a fresh- man starting part-time and playing a majority of the game. I feel we have good players returning next year; we will be young and should progress as they gain more experience. Coach Waldroup 87 88 FRONT: Johnny Harris, Dan Story, Mark Hayes, Jimmy Padgett. TEACHERS OF THE YEAR Mrs. Jackie Fowler Mrs. Fowler came to Kentucky from Cincinnati in 1967 to attend Morehead State University where she majored in world history and minored in Latin. In 1970 she began teaching at Broughtentown School, then transferred to Stanford High School in 1971. Mrs. Fowler has taught at Lincoln County High School since it was first built. Her favorite subjects are Latin and world history, which she has a fascination for. She loves teaching and working with young people. She says they have a fresh outlook on life and an honesty not found in many adults. She also enjoys the extended vacations which allow her to devote more time to her son and husband, her gardening and her handcrafts. Mr. Robert Duff Mr. Duff was born and reared in Lincoln County. He was married in 1960 and has raised three boys: Robbie, Paul and Darrin. He attended Waynesburg Elementary and Me- morial High School. He attended Campbellsville College for one year and finished at EKU. He started teaching at Highland Elementary in 1963; he then taught at Memorial for 2 years. He has also worked 2 years for the Kentucky Welfare Program. He spent the next five years teaching at Hustonville and was Assistant Bask- etball Coach and Head Baseball Coach. He started teaching at LCHS in 1974. He was track and cross country coach at LCHS. Mr. Duff enjoys teaching at LCHS. He likes the teacher-student relationship, and he thinks the student body is a respectable student body and deserves the revised curriculum coming on. 205 What’s up? The Best! 207 Bobby are you struggling? L.H.S. starts its students ear- ly- Michael Jackson fans. don't worry about it Mike. HERO! Aren’t they cute two of the fun bunch Tash are you retarded? The student body and faculty of Lincoln County High were greatly saddened in October of 1983 by the tragic death of Jay King. Jay, a junior at LCHS, was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident. IN LOVING MEMORY OF JAY KING His smile so bright His eyes so blue Jay, we sure are going to miss you. You lifted us up when we were sad; You cheered us up and made us glad. We'll never forget the good times we’ve had. You were always so bright and cheery, too; You were always so nice—never seemed sad or blue. That’s how we want to remember you. Although you’ve gone from this earth here below. Our condolences to your family we do bestow. We will never forget your face with its warm glow; We will miss your laughter. Your loving kind face, and we will miss your happy embrace. Jay, we will all remember, in our own special way. That special place you hold in our hearts today. We will keep you in our hearts forever and there your memory will stay. It is cold and empty at LCHS without you and our hearts are so heavy, weary and blue. Jay, you were a one and only and this we know to be true. In our hearts we will hold your love and always, always remember you. We shall miss you greatly, my friend, but we all with our sorrows our prayers we send. You were more than just a friend; You were someone we loved and we will always carry your memory for the years to come. We’ll miss you! LCHS Body 208 (written by Petrina Payton, a junior at LCHS)
