STANDING: Timmie Alcorn, Mitchell Martin, Mike Candler, Henry James, John Gooch, Mark Young, Bryant Chambers, Danny Snyder, Tim Jackson, Todd McGuffey, John Smith, Kenneth Cloyd, Vincient Logan, Alphanse Miller, and Mike McGuffey. The 1980-81 Varsity Football squad compiled a record of seven and four. It was a good and bad season for the Patriots as we started off the year with a big win at Russell Springs against the Russell Co. Lakers, in the Lake Cumberland Bowl. We lost the district title to Whitley Co. in overtime by the score of 9-6, but we did beat area rivals Harrodsburg and Boyle Co. convincingly, 22-0 and 31-6 respectively. We will certainly miss our seniors next year, but we have high hopes for another successful season with our returning lettermen next year. 142 FRESHMAN FOOTBALL TEAM Guard Fullback Halfback 143 Seniors Offensive Tackle Offensive End Defensive Tackle Offensive Tackle 144 1980-81 Patriots KNEELING: Tim Robbins—Stat., Jimmy Hendricks, Paul Young, Gary Wilkinson, STANDING: Coach Roger Meek, Stuart Atwood, Eric Givens, Timmy Alcorn, Tommy Hastie, Lionel Miller, Johnny Robbins, Sidney Alcorn, Mike McGuffey, Mike Candler, and Assistant Johnny Wilder. Our season was very challenging this year since we had lost seven players off last years regional championship team, and as a result, we were young and inexperienced. We opened the season with an overtime game and closed with an overtime game. We played seven overtime periods with three of them in the Somerset game. Our team worked hard and there always seemed to be an element of success just around the corner. We were saddened by the death of Ed Ensslin, who was one of our most loyal fans. May we always have fond memories of Ed. On behalf of the Patriots, I would like to thank all Lincoln Countians who gave their support. 146 Basketball Timmie Alcorn Tommie Hastie U7 J.V. STANDING: Jimmy Godbey, Stuart Atwood, Greg Snow, Sidney Alcorn, Lio- nel Miller, Scott Montgomery, Mike Candler, Paul Estes, and Coach Johnny Wilder. The 1980-81 junior varsity basketball team had another very successful season. They had a final record of 15-2. The only losses coming at hands of Boyle Co. 42-41 and Laurel Co. 69-46. This year's team was one of the most talented groups from top to bottom and one of the youngest, hav- ing one junior and ten sophomores. The JV had seven different players that were high point scorers for at least one game during the season. The members of this year’s team are: Mike Candler, Sidney Alcorn, Lionell Miller, Gary Wilkinson, Stu- art Atwood, Greg Snow, Larry Dunn, Scott Montgomery, Paul Estes, Jimmy Godbey, and Larry Owsley. 148 150 Lady Patriots SITTING—Myra Montgomery, Angie Walker, Lisa Smith, Martha Bastin, Shelley Benedict, Tammy Norton, and Karen Brown. They were picked as the best team in the area all year and one of the regional contenders. They were winners of the Boyle Co. Invitational Tournament at Christmas and District runner-up to Russell County before being defeated in the region by state champions Pulaski County. They had several players to receive honors throughout the year. Martha Bastin was picked as the best player in the area by THE ADVOCATE MESSENGER. The also was all districk, all region, all CKC, and honorable mention all state. Angie Walker was picked as an all area player by the ADVOCATE and also listed as honorable mention all state, and 2nd team all CKC. Myra Montgomery was picked for the all district and all region teams, and Lisa Smith was a member of the all district team. Lady Patriots loose these four seniors this year but they have a strong nucleus of players returning being led by four juniors: Shelley Benedict, Karen Brown, Tammy Norton and Kim Sears. Cindy Carrier, Lisa Carrier, and Lisa Snyder also saw a lot of action this year. We were proud of our team this year and are going to be back strong next year. Both squads were awarded ribbons for attendance and excellence in performance, with the boys squad receiving a superior-over-all-squads ribbon. Both squads competited in District Cheerleading Competitions plus the Varsity Boys Cheerleaders placed fourth in the Fort Harrod Competition. We are very proud of both Cheering squads and feel they represented our school in a proud manner. Sponsors Darlene Phillips Ann Keith Osbourne 161 Today, cheerleaders hold a more important and respected place in school activities than ever before. Upon them rests a great responsibility to represent their school well. They not only provide an important decorative background for the athletic events in the school, but they can also guide the student body toward better sportsmanship and spirit and, by so doing, effect the mood of the whole athletic program. 165 Shall we dance?
