We felt that our opening game with Jessamine Co. played a big part in our record this year. We opened up with some quick scoring and felt we didn't take ad- vantage of the game situation. We had two or three injuries and were unable to stop the momentum of a good Jessamine Co. team. Injuries, mental outlook, execution seemed to plague us throughout the season. Even with these many things confront- ing us, we still felt that we should have been more successful. We feel that we have some good players returning next year but would like to see more people get involved and help LCHS rise in their athletic program. Certainly the following graduating seniors will be missed and we wish them success--Ronnie Lowe, Steve Penman, David Hatter, Toby Ruckel, Russell Dunaway, Tom Wright, Dale McQueary, Steve Collins, Tom Naylor, MattTillett, Johnny Hardwick, Randy Leach, Bruce Welch, Tim Gill, Matt Layer, Hamilton Speaks, Andy Galbreath, and Joe Fletcher. 145 Joe Fletcher 146 Andy Galbreath Randy Leach Dale McQueary Thomas Naylor Steve Penman Tony Ruckel Hamilton Speaks Ronnie Lowe Matt Tillet Tom Wright JV Zeam 149 ‘mm Wt K i This season was kind of like a see-saw in that we would play with the best ball teams and then allow some of the weaker clubs to beat us. On so many games we would appear to be out of it by half-time only to rally, to the point, that one sportswriter pegged out team as the comeback kids . Even though we were up and down a lot, I feel we still had a successful season. We were able to compile an 18-12 worksheet while capturing a runner-up position in the CKC tournament and winning our second consecutive 46th District Championship title. We will miss our six seniors from this team next season, but with hard work this summer maybe our under- classmen will rise to the challenge of replacing them. After the first seven games, the Patriots had a six and one record with wins over top teams like Monticello, Mercer County and Boyle County. The girls lost three of the next four games by very lop-sided scores. The team now had a seven and four record. The team really perked up for a few weeks. They won five of the next six games averaging almost 60 points per game. We could not handle success and lost three of the next four games. The Patriots ended the season with a win over Wayne County for a 14-8 regular season record. The team entered tournament play with high hopes, but played poorly and lost to Russell Co. In the next tournament game, a tremendous effort by the team produced a 66-51 win over Casey Co. and a trip to the Regional tournament. The team lost a heartbreaking three point decision in the Regional game to end the season. Teresa Johnson, Anna Camenisch and Sandy Gutenson earned all-District honors. Sandy was also selected as the 4th member of the 12 member all-Regional team. The Patriots lose two seniors, Anna Camenisch and Mary Belcher, but return a nucleus of fine sophomores and fresh- men. The 1975 76 team averaged 37 rebounds, 18 steals, made 22 out of 64 attempts from the floor, and 8 of 18 from the free throw line. The Patriots return sophomores Sandy Gutenson, Teresa Johnson, and Connie Oliver who have started varsity for two years. We also return sophomores Sharon Meade and Rochelle Tucker who were parttime starters. Sophomore Janeice Giv- ens was a starter this season and led the team in rebounding. Freshmen Tami Phillips, Judy Cain and Kay Holtzclaw started several games and contributed much to the team. 161 Coach Virgil Benge LC Girls Win District Judy puts one up Cross Country David Martin Bill Severance Clinton Harris David Hacker Mike Martin Robert Rankin Anna Camenisch Sue Jones Christy Cave Teresa Johnson Debby Severance Connie Oliver Sandy Gutenson Vicky Owens 163 Zrack Girls Janeice Givens, Rochelle Tucker, Teresa Johnson, Christy Cave, Debbie Severance, Tisha Galbreath, Melody Singleton, Jane Dye, Sherry Smith, and Sharon Meade. The D. A.R. Good Citizen Award is given annually to a Senior at Lincoln County High School by the Logan- Whitiey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revo- lution. Michael Durham, the 1976 Good Citizen, was the first boy to represent the Logan-Whitley Chapter. He was also the district winner and the only male competi- tor at the state level. The contest is now open to both boys and girls. Selection is based upon dependability, leadership, pa- triotism, and service. The Senior Class nominates three of its members and the Faculty, by secret ballot, chooses one of those three. The winner at each school advances into district competition. This involves completing, under supervision and without assistance or reference, a questionaire on the categories of federal and state gov- ernment, personal ideals, and patriotism. The Logan- Whitley Chapter has had several district winners. Dis- trict winners then compete at the state level. The break from England was not to come easily, as this fledgling was viewed as a ser- ious threat to the tentacles of the vast and far-flung British Empire. JL atriots rose from every corner of the struggling country. Help came from other European countries to add to the flame of breaking the grip of England. Farmers, fish- ermen, cobblers and men from every walk of life took up their arms to defend this new- felt right to be free. As the smoke began to clear, ideas on organizing this diversity of colonies into a coalition of united states began to take shape. The form of a Constitu- tion and Bill of Rights was molded by states- men who previously were nonexistent. ■■■ s the word spread in other parts of the world of this new country, with its vast do- main and resources, thousands of immigrants poured in to start a new life. With the added growth of population, new frontiers were needed. This stretching brought new con- flicts with foreign powers who previously had laid claim to parts of the interior. s the gangling country continued to grow, internal disagreement erupted into a battle of economic and philosophical differ- ences. The battle was to leave scars which would heal only after generations had passed. Out of the wounds came a stronger fiber of freedom for the individual man. The country had survived as a unit and now its energies would be put to work in rebuilding the found- ing fathers' ideals. «t s one of the leading industrial nations, this strapping, growing giant became em- broiled in the first of the World Wars. After its success with other Allied Nations, a never- before-felt boom and prosperity was followed with the shattering bust of the Great De- pression. New leaders were sought to pull the Country out of its fall, while on the horizon new storm clouds were building across the oceans. - = ,.a , %r N „ Ii second World War was fought to pro- tect the cause of freedom, as the now grown m giant emerged to take its place as the leader Jof the Free World. This new role has brought with it—many challenges—many successes— some failures . . . and through it all a spirit for all nations to envy—a burning passion that all men may one day be free . . . i Photo Credits: National Archives -National V K?V V K
