Coach Plueger said that the program is mainly for the girls to gain experience and to stimulate interest in the sport of volleyball. The program lasted for about four weeks; and they did play one other school, Lisbon. Stats were not kept at the games because it was for the girls to use their basic skills and interest them to participate at the high school level. ‘AY - Pee Front Row, L to R: L. Hoffman, L. During the season, | felt we made progress with the funda- mentals of football. The 8th graders must work hard at their skills to be ready to play high school football. The final ratings by the IGHSAU had Lincoln rated nineteenth in the state. Teamwork and a close unity among the players were the main key to the successful season. This was extremely evident as 19 school records were either tied or broken by that of girls. They entered each contest with the attitude they were going to win and never quit until the final point was scored. Post season honors went to Tracy Dono- hoe as captain and greatest morale booster. Kelly Meyer received the most valuable player award and Dawn Worby was named as most improved player. The chorus was a very active group with many performances given throughout the year. The concert choir and swing choir were only a couple of the groups that performed at the pops con- cert and Christmas Concert. Early in the spring they performed at Mechanicsville with the elementary and junior high student cho- rus. Working hard in class every fourth hour earned us a II rating for the state large group contest which is a very good rating for a small school such as we are. Throughout the year the chorus and band worked together sell- ing candles and having a rummage and bake sale which was to have each student earn money for him(her)self to go to Chicago for the Marriot's Great American Festival of Music. At this festi- val, both the band and chorus earned a bronze medal. So as you can tell, the chorus was active and hopes to be so in the near future. They used to be one solid week in March in which students and teachers got away from the reg- ular routine of school. This year things were differ- ent. The solid week was broken up between two months, February 14th and 15th, and March 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. This year some popular courses were skiing, bread making, and a hiking campout at Yellow River State Forest. Having the courses at two different times of the year was quite a change, but it gave some students the chance to snow ski in February and camp in March, weather permitting. Mini courses are a lot of fun for students and teachers alike, and hopefully Lincoln will continue to have them. Due to camera problems, we are sorry our pictures are limited. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY On, Thursday, May 3, at 10:00 AM, something very special hap- pened at Lincoln. This occasion only comes once a year so all those involved get all dressed up. Being initiated into the National Honor Society is a very high honor, not only in high school, but after graduation, too. Being selected into this organization means if you are a sophomore, you have had to main- tain a 3.0 grade average for three consecutive semesters: for a junior grade average for two consecutive semesters. If this average isn't maintained, you are dropped. Good grades aren't the only qual- ifications. You are judged on char- acter, scholarship, leadership, and service. As a probationary member you get a card signifying that you are a member. As a regular member, you get a card plus a pin. The four let- ters at the bottom of the pin are for the things you are judged upon. The graduate members receive a card and a seal on their diplomas indicating they were members. ——, NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Lots of school spirit!!! Something smells. THE NEW WEST WING Four rooms take up the new west wing of Lincoln Community School. These new rooms are the art room, the band room, the chorus room, and Mr. Proc- tor’s office. The new rooms replaced the McKinley building which consisted mainly of classrooms. The old band, art, and chorus rooms have been con- verted into the new wres- tling room, drafting room, and Junior High and High School boys’ locker rooms. New storage cupboards in the art room. Chairs and storage in the chorus room. Sponsored by: PORTRAITS BY DEB, Mechanicsville THE EAST ADDITION A new restroom. A secretary's new office. A new classroom. Sponsored by: FAMILY HARDWARE, Mechanicsville The East Addition of Lin- coln Community School consists of six classrooms, two restrooms, and storage areas. These six class- rooms replaced the six rooms in the old McKinley building. Each room is equipped with new chalk- boards, cupboards for stor- age, and a new teacher's desk! There is only one window in each classroom, but the heating system is designed to keep the rooms warmer in winter and cooler in summer! THE NEW ATHLETIC FIELDS Believe it or not, but Lin- coln has finally got the track they've been dream- ing of plus a new football field and baseball dia- mond! The new track took up the whole baseball dia- mond and half of the foot- ball field, so they moved the baseball diamond to McVille, and put the foot- ball field in the center of the track. There will also be new bleachers and a con- cession stand added to the new facility. You no longer have any excuses athletes! —_ +. : The new track and football field. The baseball diamond.
