Staying with us from two European countries this past year were Anne Seebach and Bart Decaluwé! Anne came from Logten, Denmark, In Logten, she lives with her parents, Agnete and Ib, and her two bro- thers - Peter and Poul. While in America, Anne stayed with Mr, and Mrs, Calvin Robinson, Kris, Kelly and Kurt, Anne's year was hectic at times, but a lot of fun too, She enjoyed trying new American foods and found she especially liked beef and pizza. In her spare time, Anne likes to knit and crochet, Anne's male counterpart in our exchange program, Bart Decaluwe, came from the Flemish part of Bel- gium in northwestern Europe, Bart's American home was made with the Richard Lev- ander family. Bart felt right at home with Levander's five children as he comes from a family of nine him- self. He has two sisters, Mieke and Anneke, and four brothers, Jan, Piet, Nico and Jos. In his spare time, Bart enjoys reading, swimming, or just goofing around . Both Anne and Bart celebrated their eighteenth birth- days while in the states, Anne's birthday was Septem- ber 29, and Bart's birthday was December 31, Plans for the future include further education for each; both Anne and Bart plan to major in education. We from Lincoln wish both of them good fortune and success in the future. These fellows seem to have gotton picked up. This was one of the events at the Senior Class Carnival, held to raise money for the class trip. _ r. se a a ” —— — May 15th 1975 at 8:30 A.M. 46 of Lin- coln's Seniors, 7 members of the faculty, 2 vans, 1 truck, 15 buckets of chicken and tons of other goodies started off for Lake McBride for 1 big fun-filled Sen- ior Class Trip. The weather at first wasn't at all what the class had wished for and it seemed a gloomy day was ahead of them. But the sun soon appeared and the seniors and sponsors came alive. Everyone headed for the water either to fish, swim, paddle boat or go canoeing, Others preferred the land and hiked about or just layed around absorbing the hot sun, Everyone had the pleasure of feeling the water, even the members of the faculty. Some of them put up a pretty good fight, but the mighty seniors managed to get them wet. The tired and wet group loaded up the bus and returned home around 8:00 p.m. the same night. Everyone of them say- ing they had a great time and one heck of a sunburn, Honor Day Jeff King was awarded a State of Iowa Scholarship, Many honors and awards were given this day of May 23, 1975, Other awards and recipients were: Iowa Bar Award-Rita Freeman and Kristi Wenndt; D.A.R. T would like to see many more young girls out for softball. There is no way Lincoln softball can be strong if we don't have girls developing in the sport at the freshmen and sophomore level to take the place of established players who graduate, Right now I see this as our biggest weakness, Sponsored by: Thumma's DX Service, Stanwood, Ia, 945-3595. We were in every ballgame and shut out only once by the score of 3 - 0 at the hands of Calamus, the Con- ference Champs. The varsity finished with a 4 - 9 record and the junior varsity at 4 - 4, The varsity was lead by Bret Horr at 361 and Chuck Bails at 350, while Alex Taylor with an average of 380 was the leading J.V. hitter. The '74 campaign provided a great deal of experience for our squad and with everyone back we are looking forward to a great '75 season. These same people will be counted on next year to fill the positions lost by graduation of our seniors, With the loss of 12 seniors the experience gained, through our J.V. program, will be a valuable asset to those men re- turning for the '75 campaign. The players had a dream of winning a third straight conference champion- ship. But, this dream never came true. Coach Wendel commented, The 1974 football team finished on a winning note and ended the season with a 5-4 record after a slow start. Our conference record was 4-3 and placed us in a tie for fourth. Next year we return seven or eight fine experienced players and hope the knowledge they gained will allow them to win the 1975 conference race, The 1974 football records were kept by three fine statisticians. All Homecoming events were held on Friday, Sept. 27th, In the afternoon, a parade of floats, royalty and clowns was led by the marching band through down- town Stanwood on its way to the football field, There the cheerleaders plus clowns held an enthusiastic pep rally featuring a skit by the king and queen candidates and of course Coach Wendel's introduction of the foot- ball team. That evening the team faced a formidable opponent, the Preston Trojans. Down 6 points at the half, the Panthers weren't able to pull out of the slump in time, losing 6-12, ee Le ay Spirits were still up for the Homecoming Dance immed- iately after the game in the gym. We played well against the teams that won the conference, but didn't have quite enough to win those games. There were times when we played very good basketball. The first Wheat- land game, we shot 60% from the field and dominated from start to finish as we scored a 76-40 win. Both games with Calamus were good even though we were defeated 91-77 and 61-55 in overtime. The best quarter of ball came in the sectionals, where we came from behind in the second quarter to lead at the half of the Clarence Lowden game, outscoring them 20-7. Our shortcomings were in the area of rebounding and consistent play. The kids gave it a good go, but in most cases were out rebounded, Varsity Basketball Co-captains: . The team's enthusiasm was relatively high the whole time. Unfortunately, wea- ther and other circumstances did not al- low us to condition very much, It'sa young squad with very few seniors, so it should be a strong team again next year. Seven Years In A Row Nobody seems to know how many fingers to hold up, but everyone's happy to win the Wapsie Conference for the seventh year in a row! The '75 track season was a bit bizarre. Foul weather cancelled 3 of the first meets, and the team ran in their first competition (placing second) at the Spartanette Relays, April 14, One highlight of the season was the squad's seventh consecutive victory at the Wapsie Conference meet. Lincoln also won the Mideast Conference and their own Swampsie Relays--both new events this year and hopefully new traditions, too, Kym Speer set a new school record in the long jump at districts with a jump of 16'8 1 4 over Kathy Murfield's jump of 16'7 . The jump qualified for the State meet along with the 880 yd. relay (Chris Zenishek, Kym Speer, Janice Studer, Kris Speer) and Janet Wagner in the 100 meter hurdles, Only 3 members were seniors, so next year's team should be just as successful. Fourth Row: (L-R) Cindy Weber, LeAnne Bohr, Advisor Mr. Don Dop. To the ignorant observer, the publications’ class looks like modified chaos where everyone makes their own noise and confusion. Unbeknownst to all, it is actually very organized (behind the scene, of course). 7th hour starts simultaneously with a few writers pecking on typewriters, others scribbling at a desk; clamors from the photographers for passes to the mysterious darkroom; those higher up in the pecking order grabbing assignments out of the file cabinet or distributing abundant advice, Mr. Dop gives his daily announcement, All right, people--let's get busy with something! If you don't have anything to do, Kris will find you something, Newspaper articles for the Lincoln Log are due on Wednesday, more than a week before that issue comes out on Thursday. Lisa Hatcher, the editor, proofreads all the material handed in and forwards it on to Mr. Dop for his approval, The photographers type (with a maximum of 2 fingers) the cap- tions for their pictures, and disappear back to the darkroom. The annual takes more class time--devising lay-outs, writing copy, figur- ing up headline space, proofreading, labeling everything twice, proofread- ing and finally proofreading, There is more pressure to get the annual work done, since there are definite deadlines to be met with the company pub- lishing the yearbook and it's Kristi Wenndt's (editor) responsibility to make sure it gets done, No matter what publications LOOKS like, the class gets a lot done and is a great improvement over the separate newspaper and annual staff. We had a majority of the girls out for this sport and this made it difficult to play the girls as much as they would like during each game. All girls that stayed with the sport played in at least half of the games. Pitching was better this season than the past and hitting was our best skill of the game.
