All politicians were mistrusted and labeled crooks by the suspicious public. ...the year of the energy crisis. The land of plenty suddenly shifted to a land of shortage. The news hit home when LHS hot-rodders were forced to slow down to the snail's pace of 55 m.p.h. ...the year of war and peace in the Mideast. No one, including Kissinger, suspected what would happen next in the powder keg, ...the year that the farmers never had it so good! ...the year that STREAKING on college campuses replaced the traditional fad of swallowing goldfish. ...the year of broken records in sports. The end of the 81-game winning streak of the UCLA Bruins and their star, Bill Walton; Hank Aaron surpassing Babe Ruth's career record of 714 home runs; the Miami Dolphins capturing the Super Bow] for the second straight year; and the Boston Celtics winning the NBA play-offs. --.the year of THE EXORCIST, THE STING, and AMERICAN GRAFFITTI. .-.the year of The Streak by Ray Stevens.
