The Pantherettes ended up with a 5 win 8 loss season record during the fall softball season, They were defeated by Fall Sof thall Clarence-Lowden in sectionals at Wheatland on October 4, 1973. The two top letter-winners were Joy Svoboda with a 409 batting average and June Bails with 395. Leading the team in put-outs was Dawn Coppess, having accumulated 41 throughout the season, Deb Kohl led the Pantherettes in assists with 25. Top RBI hitter was Joy Svoboda, batting in 14 runs. One of the highlights during the sea- son was the softball invitational at Solon, Between games, the team escaped to Lake Me Bride for excitement on that rainy afternoon, Miraculously, all re- turned safe from a treacherous boat ride guided by inexperienced girls. Meanwhile, Coach was trying his luck at minnow fishing, but his only catch was a cold! Though many times they came out as a loser, they never gave up. The final sea- son record of the Varsity was 2-9. The J.V. girls ended their season at 4-8, The girls elected their own captains. Terry Kurth - Varsity Captain; DeeAnn Tenley - J.V. Cap- tain (picture-bottom, far right). They also elected the most valuable players in the opinion of the girls themselves. Kris Wenndt was voted most valuable player of the Varsity Squad. Diana Lehrman was the J.V. most Valuable Player.
