C. H. S. service- men. This recognition is especially due to those who gave their lives e the gold stars -- to all those who fought for peace and the boys now entering to keep peace. To all L. C. H. S. service- men goes our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the service rendered by each one in making the world a safer place in which we all may live. Page F iv: THE LINCOLNITE FOREWORD Page Six 1946 FOREWORD As peace is once again restored and we are striving for a better world, the class of 1946 present this yearbook. Pleasant memories come to mind as we think back over the last four years. The last basket and the first touchdown; the marching of the band and the merry voices of the glee clubs; the plays and readings were only a few of the exciting events during these four years of diligent effort. Although we have had our fun and play we must pause and think of those who have fought for our peace and prosperity. We must also stop and pay tribute to those who have given their lives in the line of duty. We would not be living in a quiet peaceful America if it were not for our fighting forces. We, the class of '46 wish to thank the faculty and Mr. Handlin for their fine guidance and to wish success and good luck to the underclassmen and the future classes of LCHS. Both students and teachers may be assured of excellent advice when they present their problems to him. The sterling quali- ties of leadership and service are indeed exempli- fied in our principal. Page N ine THE LINCOLNITE BOARD OF EDUCATION BOARD OF EDUCATION To the ayerage student who comes to school every day, studies, and goes home in the evening, the thought never occurs of what makes the school run smoothly, and function systematically. The answer to this is the Board of Education. On the second Monday of every month there is a meeting to plan the schools program, select the faculty, and pay the bills. These meetings are called Board Meetings, and the men present are known as the Board of Education. These men are selected by your mothers and fathers to di- rect the schools that are provided for by their taxes. They meet with Mr. Handlin who carries out the proposed programs. One of the latest considerations of the Board is the possibility of making an addition to the school building. Be- cause of building supply shortages this plan is still in the blueprint stage, but it may someday become a reality. And if it does it will be through the efforts of the Board of Education. Page Ten THE LINCOLNITE 1946 DEANS LAURA M. ARMSTRONG U. ARTHUR BROWNE Dean of Girls Dean of Boys DEANS Remembered with admiration by the Class of 46 will be the Deans, Miss Armstrcng and Mr. Browne. From our first year at L. C. H. S. until this, our last, their willingness and eagerness to ad- vise, listen to, and cooperate With us in even our smallest problems have endeared them to us. The school, the community, in fact, every- one, can be justly proud of the work they are do- ing in developing the minds of the boys and girls of today into the mature minds cf men and women of tomorrow. Forrester BASKETBALL Lincoln was knocked out of the Regional Tournament by Atlanta, who in return was defeated by Mt. Pulaski, in the final. Lincoln was de- feated by Atlanta by a score of 55 to 39. Lincoln was again coached to victory and defeat by their veteran coach Roy S. Anderson, with a new assistant Victor Baumgartner, who was new to L. C. H. S. Lincoln's team was composed mostly of veterans like Gib Carl, Tom Comstock, Bill Bushell, Bob Ritchhart, and Bruce Enselman, a junior. These men are veterans of previous years of experience on the basketball court. Gib Carl who played forward was given all-state mention. He was the only man of the Lincolnls basketball team to receive honorable men- tion. Gib is a veteran of three years' service. Lincoln, by losing out in the Regional, should produce a wonderful track team for Lincoln. The boys should be well rested for the track season. They seemed to need rest, the entire basketball season. Maybe the boys need some atomic energy. One thing Lincoln did do through the season was to out score their opponents 187 to 1055. Gib Carl, ended up in fourth place in the Big Twelve in the'individual scoring race with 128 counters. Lincoln's returning veterans for next year will consist of two Juniors and one Sophomore with court experience. Page F arty-S even THE LINCOLNITE RESERVES AND FRESHMAN Row I V. Baumgartner; S. Other members of the team are Olsen, Underwood, Shroyer, and Doolen. Lincoln looks forward to a better team in the next two years. Most of the team's players are sophomores with the exception of Dick Shroyer who is a senior. The squad again carries a full schedule this season with meets such as Peoria. Central, Pekin, Decatur, and Blooming- ton. There are all duel return matches. The District will be 'at Decatur and the State Meet will be at Champaign as well as the Big Twelve.
