Cl ily i q i f ga g v4-1 x it WW 1? 5 , H The annual frosh-soph tackle football game was a runaway win for the biggies, but the frosh said, Wait'll next year. Of course next year they'll be the sophs. Registration, in spite of all the fancy new computerized gadgets, still meant waiting in line, making new friends and renewing old, and hoping some classes other than Physics were still open. , ISU l 1 af l , ff ., 5, , ,ff , .,f l , 2 fs 3 1 W! 1 ., 'f 'A' Way T MMWAWWWMW W i2H.,a?J fig? 22679 .vWfW7f . y ,yy ,- ' 1224, we vg5,2ig ggi ,i f5Lff!1-,2?' WHEN WE ARRIVED on campus in September we all had to adjust, sophomores as well as frosh. We had new tables and a fence outside the Uniong we had new boothes and the same old Mary inside. We had two new Deans of students, Mr. Hartsfield, who drove a yellow Cadillac and wore cowboy boots, and Miss Mulhollan, who wanted to be called Associate Dean, instead of Dean of Women. We had a new cafeteria manager, Mr. g'Mac , who gave us two choices of meals and two buffet tables of saladg even a daily menu so we could prepare ourselves in advance. And there was a new swimming pool, complete with piped in music and a tropical greenhouse. Though the freshmen who didnit wear their beanies suffered awfully at the hands of sophomores carrying Majic Markers and paint, they endured initiation week and went on to elect two members of the Unity Party, Mike Scannell and Tim Carlson, along with Hattie Blackwell as their class officers. Senator Paul Douglas there with President Dooleyj was speaker and honorary doctorate recipient at opening Convocation of the 1969 school year. 2 I, . are . , , W we t C ' . Captain Art Grossman led the fall golf team to an excellent record. WE HAD ALL KINDS of entertainment and controversy in the Fall. Norton Pepper held impromptu concerts behind H.H. and in the coffee house, and Nixon was pitted against Humphrey for the Presidency. As far as that was concerned, the Young Republicans mushroomed into the largest club on campus, dwarfing the hastily-formed Young Democrats. We had a few Wallace backers too, as well as some die-hards who continued to wear McCarthy buttons into the winter. An ill-fated peace march was organized among the students, but the local police tailed and har- rassed the leaders so much that the whole thing was called off. When Senator Dirksen visited campus to present a replica of the rocking chair Lincoln was assassinated in, several students were waving aloft placards and picketing. Mr. Dan Oberholtzer took a musical tour of Europe with a student group. They gave a farewell concert in the new swimming pool before leaving. i I J 3 X .fl 1' ,K fl
