Captain Art Grossman led the fall golf team to an excellent record. WE HAD ALL KINDS of entertainment and controversy in the Fall. Norton Pepper held impromptu concerts behind H.H. and in the coffee house, and Nixon was pitted against Humphrey for the Presidency. As far as that was concerned, the Young Republicans mushroomed into the largest club on campus, dwarfing the hastily-formed Young Democrats. We had a few Wallace backers too, as well as some die-hards who continued to wear McCarthy buttons into the winter. An ill-fated peace march was organized among the students, but the local police tailed and har- rassed the leaders so much that the whole thing was called off. When Senator Dirksen visited campus to present a replica of the rocking chair Lincoln was assassinated in, several students were waving aloft placards and picketing. Mr. Dan Oberholtzer took a musical tour of Europe with a student group. They gave a farewell concert in the new swimming pool before leaving. i I J 3 X .fl 1' ,K fl

Senator Everett McKinley Dirksen, native son of Pekin, came to LC one day in the fall to present a replica of the chair in which Abe Lincoln was assassinated. Senator Dirksen, campaigning at the time for another term in Washington, was a big hit with his sly humor and eloquent style. Vice President Layman and Dean Carpenter greeted the Senator on his arrival. Classes were in again at Harts Hall, and a little afternoon femininity never hurt the scene, even if it did mean books and homework and staying out of the draft. if W , I .L ff ,WP e .L , F 'Jig r 4 ,ft f g .ff f A , K I 4 ,, ,A '- ve: gif M 414 1227! ii? va M 5 W4 4 A Z 2 Qf . , fm Y a , 1 'ef f-1 VW WWW fi V , f ..,' 5, iff, I 'few 2 , W , A 2 2
