OUR UNDER GRADUATE | DEAN The continuing chaos and confusion of our day present two urgent demands to the Christian. First is the necessity of girding himself to stand amid the storms which are today sweeping across our world. The other is the imperative necessit y of reaching people who are caught up in the mael- strom of world-wide turmoil with the saving mes-- sage of Jesus Christ. Both demands are at the same time most urgent and fraught with the utmost difficulty. Who can stand in the midst of universal turbulence ? Who can avoid being swept into the whirling vortex of the present violence? And who can speak the word or do the deed which will beguile the masses from their present headlong plunge toward ruin? Can the brave? Can the enterprising? Can the wise and the prudent of this age? Bravery, enter- prise and worldly wisdom will not suffice. Success in the task and victory in the strife will be to those who are prepared, not with the tools of earth, but with the everlasting armor of God. By sad experience we have learned that man must not, indeed, cannot fight in his own strength and wisdom. The powers arrayed against him are too immense. His only hope is to stand in the strength and be clad in the armor which is the equip- ment available to every child of God. Age-long failure and ruin teach the folly of choosing any other course. “Put on, therefore, the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand. ....”

The full armor of God is sufficient. How com- forting is this news in a time of great stress, when the enemy is attacking our homes, our country, and our very lives. He would steal away all that is good. But the deceiver cannot succeed against the Christian because God has provided the armor which cannot be penetrated. God has not only provided the armor but also has sent his messenger to tell us to put it on. This armor is for defense and for at- tack. By this means God has made it possible for us to be saved from the chief enemy of mankind and to drive him to cover by the sword of the Spirit. This is our God-given blessing. We can by the grace of God live free of the damning influences of Satan. This year’s staff is to be congratulated be- cause of their choice of a theme. But we who have been blessed have the great responsibility to tell others how their homes and their lives can be pro- tected. May all who leave the doors of this school put on the whole armor and help all others to ob- tain it. Earl C. Hargrove OUR PRESIDENT
