RM ten ae ie!) Oe, io Sa { a The 1950 Lifeline Staff has desired to present herein a general account of this year’s life and activities of a ser- vant of Christ, the Lincoln Bible Insti- tute. Wetrustthatthis little volume will be an enjoyment to you and serve as a pleasant token in the coming years. In DEDICATION PROF, HAROLD W. FORD In recognition of his loyalty to Christ and his service to His church, his keeness of thought as professor of New Testament and instructor in Church History, his portrayal of a Christian gent- leman and scholar, and his relationship to us as a dear friend, we the students of the Lincoln Bible Institute dedicate our 1949-50 yearbook. THE LINGOLN CHRISTIAN CHURCH These words of Paul voice the feelings of each student of Lincoln Bible Institute toward the Lincoln Christian Church. “I thank my God upon all my remembrance of you, always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy, for your fellowship in furtherance of the gospel from the first day until now.” Philippians 1:3-5 THE LINCOLN BIBLE INSTITUTE “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth.” LT imesh 4 = —- : ° OLIcy NSTI?T eee DARD OF RUSTEES MR. THE PRESIDENTS Messabt Aswe look back over the year 1949-1950, we see a record of growth from a spiritual as well as a physical standpoint. This year willbe remembered because of the beginning of the building program of the Lincoln Bible Institute. Our students and friends joined hands to starta program to take care of the physical needs of the school. It is necessary to have adequate building, but we cannot forget our real purpose. We must always remind each other that the purpose of Lincoln Bible Institute is to train Chris- tian workers who can preach and teach the glorious Gospel of salvation. To be able to accomplish this purpose all must grow spiritually, physically, socially and mentally. For this reason the committee who planned this book is to be congratulated on the theme of this year’s Life Line. We cannot be true servants serving in the best possible way unless we develop a full-grown Christian character. Therefore, letus press on to be more like the Master that we be able to lead many to accept Christ as Lord and Savior, never forgetting that what the world needs is Jesus and that we have the priviledge and responsibility to give Christ to the lost. “Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with sogreata cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth soeasily besetus, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath set down at the right hand of the throne of God”. | e : P ’ | Le i a ae”. EG AP a) ee |e er. | Six busy and fruitful years have come and gone since the Lincoln Bible Institute enrolled its first student body in the autumn of 1943. The accomplishments of these years have surpassed our fondest dreams and expectations. From His bounty the Lord has poured generous blessings upon us, and His people have given liberally of their interest and substance to make possible this rapid progress. The flowering of our nation’s best youth has come to these halls and classrooms in search of the key to effective service in the Kingdom of God. All things have conspired to bring forth a rich vintage for the storehouse of our Lord. We praise and thank God for the accomplishments of the past. They are noteworthy. Dead churches have been revived, closed churches have been reopened, many congregations have been able to increase their service by securing an In- stitute preacher, and evangelism has begun to advance all along the line. Great as these accomplishments may be, and they are truly great, they are the achievements of students. They are an indication of what may be attained by a great host of Christian workers who have developed into well bal- anced personalities according to that four-fold standard set before us by our Lord and have grown spiritually, physically, intellectually and soci ally. The world awaits a great ministry which will carry the Word of God to the far ends of the earth and preach it and teach it faithfully and effectively to the hosts who perish without it. We have put our hands to the plow. Let us not turn back, nd Uesus advanced in WISDOM and stature, And in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52 ay Da 0S SOR Ts Me ane a FACULTY HARGROVE, EARL C. Books are con- stantly being added in every field in which the school offers training. An adequate library is essential to thorough training. Therefore much time is spent in selecting and preparing the. books for general use. Several important col- lections, such as: The Webber Street Church of Christ collection; The Glen Gates Cole Memorial Collection; The Hollingsworth Memorial set; The Van Winkle Memorial set; The Euclid B. The men who founded Lincoln Bible Institute saw the grave need for preachers who would preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in all of its pureness and simplicity. Thus L.B.I. opened with the promise that “the preachers are coming.” | And come they did. ..In 1944, eleven preachers went out | into the field to serve fifteen churches. Fach year the number | of preachers has increased until this year there are ninety- six preachers serving one hundred and fifteen churches. “PREACH THE WORD; be urgent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” II Timothy 4:2 “Onward, Christian soldiers! For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek: for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich unto all that call upon him: for Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shallthey preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!” Romans 10:8-15 52 oi ae, And Jesus advanced in wisdom and stature , and in favor with God and MEN... Lukea:s2 SPECIAL EVENTS SPECIAL SPEARERS: We L.B.I. students had scarcely sharpened our pencils for the fall semester’s work when we were richly blessed with the presence of Brother John Chase, missionary to Korea. From September 13th through 16th Brother John thril- led and inspired our souls with his chapel and clinic messages. We give him heartfelt thanks for beginning our school year in sucha fine way. (P.S. Does anyone know a “cannibal” joke that wasn’t used to introduce him that week? ) JOHN T. CHASE WITH PRES. EARL HARGROVE AND DEAN CHARLES MILLS From October 25th through 28th Brother G. Fred Hoy took time out from his busy evangelistic schedule to bring our chapel and clinic mes- ages. We were benefited greatly by his discourses on love, prayer, tithing, and other subjects related to the field of evangelism. (Norshall we ever forget his vivid illustration of blundering preachers who try to be fishers of men by using a tele phone pole, a log chain, and a ship’s anchor!) Thank you Brother G. Fred for a glorious week. G. FRED Hoy SPECIAL WEEHS: COURTESY CAMPAIGN In order to learn all the names of the almost two hundred students of L.B.I. the Student Council in- troduced “Name Week.” For the first two days of the week each student wore a name tag with the inscription, “Howdy, I’m ¥ and his name. Beginning Thursday, everyone got five red ribbons and the privilege of asking any other prospect the oft - embarrassing question, “What’s my name?” Penalty for the wrong answer was to part with one ribbon. Nona Railsback is pictured giving up a ribbon to Eloise Quandt, who won the contest with twenty -nine rib- bons. Looking on is Roland Flor- ence, who came in second with twenty -five ribbons. Eloise said, “Everyone remembered ‘Elly’ but missed the ‘Quandt’.” NAME WEEK ee ee ee Re Pewee. ee a te Pe Tan cee Close to the beginning of the second semester the Student Council instituted a concentrated effort to improve the manners of L.B.I. students. Posters were placed about to remind forgetful students and two unknown persons were selected to observe the stu- dent body. Each week the most courteous student received a token of recognition and appreciation. Pictured is Dwight Hazlett as he reaches the “Sir Walter Raleigh” per- fection of courtesy by spreading his cloak for Jeanetta Williams. They were the winners of the first two weeks of the Courtesy Cam- paign. SPECIAL VISITS: KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE EATING AFTER THE K. C. C. = Le Be Ie GAME. Each year at mid-semester the basketball squad takes a week to visit several of our sister Bible colleges. The association brings us closer to- gether and we are grateful for this means of contact. This year’s tour included Butler School of Religion in Indianapolis; Kentucky Christian College in Gray- son, Ky; the College of the Scriptures in Louisville, Ky; and Atlanta Christian College in Atlanta, Georgia. The boys not only play ball but they also know how to sing. They are shown presenting a program for the Grundy Mountain Mis- sion, Grundy, Virginia. GRUNDY MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL WE SHALL BE MAKE OURSELVES SINGING FOR CHRIST 57 MR. AND MRS.
