]atli and Science J to Z Lincoln offers a variety of math and science courses. Students may take these courses according to their own interest or desire for higher education. Students may take computer program- ming to learn how to operate a computer. “In computer programming we are taught marketable skills which apply to various business situations,” said Keith Person, junior. In geometry, students learn theorems, formulas and corollaries for shapes of various dimensions. Students are also taught how to write proofs. “I think this is a good course for those who are taking drafting or those who plan to be architects,” said Phillip Taylor, sophomore. One of the advanced math courses offered is pre-calculus. Pre-calculus teaches advanced methods in algebra and trigon- ometry. Karen Dixson, senior, said, “I took this course because I wanted a more advanced form of math that would help me in college. Other math courses offered at Lincoln are algebra, Advanced Algebra, trigonometry, Refresher Math and calculus. Among many different science courses offered is a course called Anatomy Phy- siology. During the first semester of the course, students study the structure and function of the human body. During the second semester students dissect a cat and compare its antomoy to that of a human. This is compiled into a 40-page research paper which is checked by a college. “This course offers a better understanding of the human body and a chance for three or five hours of college credit,” said instructor Mr. Stephen Kohl. For students who would like to take a more advanced form of physical science, there is chemistry. Chemistry helps students develop observation skills through exper- iments. “We have weekly lab sessions, perform experiments and discuss the proper- ties and reactions of chemicals,” said Mrs. Joan Sabatka, chemistry teacher. Other advanced classes in science are zoology, Advanced Biology, physics, GT Science, Advanced Chemistry and ecology. Miranda Lilly Mathematics and Science 29
