i Sounds o£ LA The sound of music has varied among the students at Lincoln Academy. Rock-n-Roll, Punk Rock, Soul, and even Country Western have become an important part of our students’ listening enjoyment. “I listen to the stereo while I do my homework, I don’t know what it is but I seem to be able to concentrate better,” said Howis Toler, sophomore. The music change is about as common as the change in fashion. “I think that fashion and music are combined together. The fifties look is in and so is the sound,” said Jalenda Motley, junior. The hair styles also changed in the midst of the music era. There are those who style their hair like Prince or maybe have it cut like Kajagoogoo. Some may go as far as to dye their hair. This year is more of the Punk Rock era. The tempo is faster and the fashion is right there with it. The tight jeans, shirts hanging off the shoulder, high water jeans, big shirts, mini skirts, muscle shirts, low heel pumps, leather pants - the list could go on. The singer and groups have become more popular than ever. If you look through the halls of Lincoln Academy, you will see people wearing their favorite singer or group. Some wear buttons with Michael Jackson, Prince, Rick Springfield, Hall and Oats, Adam Ant, Mean at Work, Duran Duran and Culture Club. While that section wishes to wear buttons, others may wish to wear tee-shirts with slogans or pictures of their favorite singer such as Michael Jackson; Thriller, Stevie Nicks, Quiet Riot, David Bowie; Let’s Dance, Loverboy, The Clash, and The Police. The true spirit of the music lovers is how they display it. As long as the singers keep giving the beat, the students will keep up the spirit of music. Doris Wilson 12 Prince-at-his best.

UN Day Brings Forth New Talent Thirty students from Lin- coln South entered poems and essays in the contest put on by Kansas City, Mo. to celebrate United Na- tions Day. The entries were on display a week before being taken down to the district office when three in each category were chosen from Grades 7-12 in the district. Discrimination Discrimination, I really hate it. I wish we would all get together and eliminate it. The Black and Whites are so far apart To think about it just breaks my heart. Why they don’t communicate is a question to me. But one day soon, we shall have unity.
