Homecoming Queen and King Marilyn McGautha and James First Runner-up Princess and Prince Tracye Gee and Arms ter Cedric Davis Second Runner-up Prince Michael Brown; Not shown Irma Salazar, Second Runner-up Princess HOMECOMING There were three, but only one could win. Sitting in the cold, watching the start of an exciting game made everyone anxious for halftime to come quick. We all were waiting for the big moment to come, wondering who was to be Homecoming Queen. We wished each other the best of luck and waited patient- ly for the time to come. Approaching halftime, I was beginning to feel nervous. As we waited on the track for the final moment, I began feeling relaxed because we knew there were just friends and alumni in the stands. As the underclass names were Photos by Ray Knutsen, Ronnie LaNear, Paul Newman being called, I said to myself, “I know I didn’t win because Marilyn and Irma had an advantage. Marilyn is a cheer- leader and Irma is a football manager and I’m just a loyal fan.” All the time something kept telling me that Marilyn was queen and Irma was first runner up and I was second runner up. We all three stood there waiting for the big moment. I heard the announcer say, Second runner up, Irma Salazar,” and I was really surprised. A smile came upon my face. The announcer waited for a moment, then said, “First runner up.” I knew it was me. It was too good to be true, but I was happy to be first runner up. As the announcer said, “The 1982-83 Homecoming Queen is Marilyn McGautha,” the big- gest smile was on her face and I was very happy for her. Tracye Gee Homecoming 7
