Foreword—This year marks Limestone’s 30th anniversary. And, like most anniversaries, that calls for a celebration, the celebration of talent. For 30 years Limestone has been the incubator and mi- crocosm for the development and expression of talent, marvelous talent, expressed in every direction imaginable. Talent is expressed at every desk, in every classroom, in every hallway, in the auditorium, in the gymnasium, on the athletic field, and in the com- munity. The multi-faceted gem that is Limestone; the hub of our environment, reflects all of these varied and diverse, major and mi- nor, great and small talents. Every student that crosses the threshold of Limestone’s doors brings with him something special, something different, something unique, and something that no one else has — himself — his individuality. And the expression of that individuality is what creates all of the talents that are seen and expressed here. Some of these talents are in their early development and some are more advanced. Some will develop no further, while others are only be- ginning to grow. That growth is nourished and molded by a more mature and experienced talent that is seen in the classrooms—a guiding talent. Everything that goes on in this building is directed toward helping students to develop their talents. For 30 years Limestone High School and its staff have contribut- ed to the development and talents of nearly 10,000 students, and it is these students who have made Limestone the school that it is today. They were very active in school functions and served in various capacities including class officers. After graduation in 1967, they attended college, ultimately completing their degrees at the University of Montana, graduating in 1972. Mr. and Mrs. Gross began teaching at Limestone in 1973 and 1972, respectively: Mr. Gross teaches in the science department, and Mrs. Gross teaches in the business department. Mr. and Mrs. Gross were class sponsors for the Class of '76. In addition, they have been the sponsors for girls track teams, girls basketball teams, and Outdoors Unlimited Club. Mrs. Gross has also been a cheerleader sponsor. Besides teaching classes and working with students and various teams and clubs, Mr. and Mrs. Gross have been very active in the Limestone teacher organizations and have been deeply con- cerned for the welfare of teachers. Outside of school, the Grosses enjoy backpacking, traveling, camping, and reading. In keeping with our theme of talent, the AMULET staff has chosen to dedicate the 1983 AMULET to these two very tal- ented people who have expressed their talents by working with both students and teachers. Thus we are proud to present this dedication to Mrs. Peggy Gross and Mr. John Gross. Mr. John Gross Dedication — Mrs. Peggy Gross Mrs. Peggy Gross Mrs. Gross loads paper into the copying machine. Seniors 51 Each year, for the past thirty years, a senior class has prepared to leave the halls of Limestone Community High School, to venture forth in the unsheltered life of the big world outside of school. The Class of 1983, is no exception. With diploma in hand, graduates from the Class of ‘83 will go out and seek their fortunes in the form of jobs, marriage, careers, college, and military service. All that was high school will be left far behind. While seated in the gymnasium listening to the commencement speakers, some will recall the homecoming last fall and the activities in which they participated. The skit only took third place and the seniors tied for second place with the juniors in the float competition. This wasn’t a very good showing! Now they would have to do better for the Spirit Week Competition—and they did. Their loverboy murals and red crepe paper among the screams and commotion swept them into first place. There were some wonderfully fine people in this class. Dave Welch won the DAR Award; Ron Simmons won the Business Student of the Year Award: Don Norman received high honors by being chosen to play first chair trumpet in the Ambassador Band traveling to Europe. Bobbi White received an appointment to West Point, and Dave Welch was accepted to Annapolis Naval Academy. Many members of the class accomplished a great deal. Some of their achievements can be seen in the pages of this book. The Senior Class was led by President Brent Modglin, Vice-presi- dent Mark Hagel. Secretary Sheri Mingus, and treasurer Chris Dearing. Jody Wetterauer led our student government as president of the Student Council. Our dedicated advisers were Mrs. Windle, Mrs. Schneider and Mr. Dennis Johnson. Hopefully, they will be worthy of the responsibilities placed be- fore them as they approach the future with confidence. Jeffery S. Adams—National Honor Society 3,4; Play 2,3,4; Football 1. 2.3.4. Our class advisors, to whom we owe a big thank you. were: Mrs. Morris, Mr. Konya, and Miss Dobrydnia. Our class project this year was the sale of a variety of candy bars. The sale was very successful and the class was able to save for future expenses. A great new goal was accomplished by most Sophomores who got their first taste of driver training. Freshmen discovered how much school spirit and enthusiasm there is here. They got a chance to do many differ- ent things and also got a chance to be involved in different sports with different people. The freshmen learned many new things the first week of school. They did not do very well in the Homecoming Week activities, but tried very hard in the skit and float competition. As it was only their first year, they lacked experience, but watch out next year! The freshmen found Spirit Week exciting and fun. Their color was blue. With much concern and enthusiasm they decorated the business hall. In spite of all the confusion, they did pretty well. The Freshman Class was led by: president, Michelle Meinders; vice-president. Susie Hines; secretary, Christy Stranz; and trea- surer, Angie Trotter. The class advisors, to whom the class was grateful for all the help and attention, were, Mr. Viers, Miss Reutter, Miss Gago. and Mrs. Johnson. The Class of 1986 put their best foot forward and gave it their best shot in all they did. The Varsity Football season actually consisted of three seasons. The first season was pre-conference play. Conference play was considered the second season in the newly established Mid-Illini Conference! Our last game of the year was the third season. The first season started slowly with a loss to Spalding (0-7). Dur- ing the next two weeks, the season began taking shape with victo- ries over Sterling and Streator both of which were ranked in the 5A poll, with scores of 30-12 and 18-13 respectively. Conference action also started as slowly as our pre-conference play. It began with a loss to Washington. 29-37. The Rockets re- gained their winning ways with a Homecoming victory over IVC. 23-20. It was the third Homecoming victory in Limestone history. The fourth victim to fall to Limestone was Canton, with a score of 13-0. It was the only defensive shutout of the year. The Morton game shocked The Rocket fans as the Rockets were blanked 0-6. The last conference game was Senior Night at Frank C. Leach Stadium. That battle was against Metamora; the Rockets came out victorious by a score of 28-14. Traveling to Galesburg for the last game of the year began the third and final season. The Rockets ended the season by putting the Silver Streaks in their place 35-21. Limestone placed 17 players on some type of all-conference team. Mike Lockwood was the only unanimous choice selected from Limestone. Others on the 1st team included: Doug Higgins, Joe Dusch. Craig Snedden, Doug Hauk, and Pat Beeney. Limestone’s portion of the second team consisted of Steve Crank. David Owen, Scott Heathcoat, Jerry Betson, Mark Maloney. Curt Skotnicki, Aar- on Lagaspi. and Wally Sutphin. Tim Schultz. Scott Miller, and Dan Becker were selected to the special-mention team. Seven members are elected from each class in the spring of the year; freshmen are elected following the end of the first grading period in the fall after the first report card has been issued. While the individual representatives are elected from the respective classes, the president and vice-president are elected from the student body at large. The Student Council is responsible for planning most of the student activities which are conducted throughout the school year. Some of the traditional activities include Homecoming, Thanksgiving Baskets. Christmas Door Decorations, Spirit Week, Vice-Versa Week, and various dances throughout the year. The Student Council meets daily, during first hour, with its advisers, Mr. Brockman and Mr. Wassell. The 1982-83 council was led by Jody Wetterauer, president. Cindy Noe. vice-president, Amy Burgess, sec- retary, and Holly Salter, treasurer. Our congratulations to the 1982-83 Student Council for a job well done.
