y y K' AO o O 6, $ 1$ py'4 : %V, ,- r J o- osX O- V W Foreword - In ihe early days of aviation, following the Wright Brothers' historic flight, a local citizen and his son approached an aviation pioneer while he was working on his frail craft in a cow pasture. The man asked. “Really, what good is the airplane?” The aviator quickly answered by posing the question, What good is your little boy?” The answer came back, Why, some day he will grow up to be a man.” And the aviation pioneer replied, “So, too. will the airplane grow to stature and significance. And now. some 79 years later, the airplane indeed has developed to be of significance. It no doubt has surpassed the wildest dreams and expectations of the Wright Brothers. What the airplane has become did not happen overnight but occurred in small steps, with experimentation, observation, and study of natural forces. Each step of the way was a new adventure and had a new meaning; there were many successes and many failures. We do not start out in life at the top. We begin at the beginning, with the benefit of past generations to help us. We add to our knowledge and continue to grow. We call upon our past and face the future as the pioneers faced the frontier. We are always planning for the future. When we were in grade school, we were planning for high school. When we are in high school, we are planning for college or some occupation or a specialized skill. We are continually preparing for the future, facing new challenges, learning new things, and growing and maturing as individuals and as a society. We begin our high school years with excitement and hope for success. And like the development of the aircraft, we have successes and. sometimes, failures. But we continue just the same because life goes on. We face new challenges with every new class we take. We plan for the future; we draw on experiences and guidance of our teachers and counselors and administrators who helped prepare the way so that we can be ready when the “launch comes. We began the 1981-82 school year in a building that had been rejuvenated inside and out. The outside had a face lift that was both practical and cosmetic with aluminum, and foam siding. The east entrance got a quarry tile floor and inlaid rocket and most of the halls were freshly painted. The English Hall floor was renewed with vinyl tile. The entire gym floor was replaced and decorated. These pleasant surroundings help to make Limestone Community High School a first-class center of education. We frequently make mistakes along the way. but each mistake teaches us something new and provides us with a foundation on which to build and develop. Since one step is built upon another, it is important to BEGIN AT THE BEGINNING. The knowledge and experiences of past generations are impressed on the pages of these 4 volumes that are carefully stored for daily reference. Developing ideas for hall decorations requires considerable planning. Merc Mark Fauber. Dan Driscoll. Mike Sullivan. Mike Grieshaber. and Rene Nash start on the foundation. Grant Mercer. Mitch Blackab Long hours of practice are required to perfect ones talents. Kathleen Dunne waits for her turn to audition for the Mid-State 10 band. and David Ashley begin at the beginning - Breakfast! Bobby Bouchez works slowly and carefully to avoid error in his drawing. Beginning with raw materials, man is capable of producing masterpieces. Joe Mullineaux begins his project. 5 Unique among animals man has developed the ability to communicate by written and spoken language and has for the past fifteen thousand years recorded his thoughts, discover- ies. and happenings so that succeeding generations could benefit from already acquired knowledge and experience. Our function as students is the application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge in an endeavor known as STUDY. On a cold and snowy Saturday in December, aviation students braved the elements to come and take the Federal Aviation Administration Examination. Mr. Randle shares his knowledge and experience with David Siebel and Tom N’asses. Students review for final exams in Mrs. Boatright's Mythology class. 6 The library, supervised by Mrs. Buzbee. is our storehouse of knowledge. Audrey Comer calls upon the knowledge and experience of Mrs. Schneider to help her solve a problem in bookkeeping. . 7 Angola Mason develops her typing skills with repeated practice. fUsing the microscope to extend the capability of her eyes. Tammy McDuff examines a slide of bacteria which she has prepared. Watching an experiment to see what happens are Bob Obery, Ron Harms, and Mike Blase.- Mr. Knezovich explains the rules to tug-of-war captains Dave Johnson and Craig Sneddon while student council adviser. Mr. Wassell. listens. 8 Man is a visual creature. Most of the information that reaches our brain comes to us through our eyes. For this reason it is important for us to see things in order to understand them. Also, we need to try things for ourselves instead of taking someone else's word for it. Thus, trial and error. New knowledge is the result of OBSERVATION and EXPERIMENTA- TION. Experimenting with different materials. Evan Finley created some unusual masterpieces which were on display at the Fine Arts Festival. Jim Jenkins looks and listens as Dr. John Ellis of Northern Regional Research Center talks about a particular mold culture. Jim Fox has a temporary setback spraining his ankle early in the game. Mark Hurd presents the swimming trophy to Dr. Endsley. for display in the trophy case. Steno Club presented Miss Risen with a plaque during National Secretary Week. Scott Laughlin displays his masks at the Fine Arts Festival. In our society, we are measured by our accomplishments which usually means the acquisi- tion of wealth, favor or eminence. It is. however, essential to understand our limitations as well— since life is composed of our SUCCESSES and FAILURES. In honor of her accomplishments in girls basketball. Jodi Rathbun's jersey and number are retired to the trophy case. A first in Limestone history. 11 We develop in KNOWLEDGE and GROWTH preparing for the future, facing new challenges, learning new things, and growing and maturing as individuals and as a society. Patrick Thornton uses his talents in preparing hall decorations. Using the band saw in the woodshop. Amy Miller cuts out a pattern. The County Clerk's Office accommodated our students by coming to Limestone to register prospective voters. The oath was administered to John Anderson by Peoria County Clerk. William Koeppel. 12 Bob Reeder works on a macramfe project in handcrafts. Members of the National Honor Society presided in the induction ceremony for new members. Above are Phil Coolidge. Mr. Negley discusses some problems relating to purchases with Mrs. Allen. Mr. Kent Negley came to Limestone Community High School in the fall of 1961 as an industrial arts teacher. He spent fourteen years in that department teaching mechanical drawing and drafting. During that time he served as a cross country coach, a track coach, and an assistant football coach. He also gave behind-the-wheel driver training. A native of this area. Mr. Negley attended Farm- ington High School and Western Illinois University where he received his bachelor's degree. He did his graduate work at Illinois State University. Before coming to Limestone. Mr. Negley taught at Mid-County High School near Varna. Mr. Negley checks a co-op schedule with Mrs. Schneider. Mr. Negley receives the dedication. Mr. Negley became Director of Occupational Education in 1975 and has served diligently in that capacity. He plans career days, and co-op programs, and he helps students plan for the future. He has been a true friend to students and faculty alike giving good advice and always trying to be helpful. He is honest, kind, and sincere and has a genuine concern for people. The students of Limestone High School are grateful to have such a devoted friend on the administrative staff and are pleased to honor him with the dedication of our 1982 AMULET. 15 17 Senior Class Officers Nancy Neff, Vice-President Rose Huntley, President Lynne Delorme, Treasurer Lynne Marchand, Secretary Six Rank No. 1 Among Top Ten Jill Marie Bahr Valedictorian 8.000 Jamie Rene Bedvvell Valedictorian 8.000 Richard Jonathan Boerckel Valedictorian 8.000 Keith Walter Bruninga Valedictorian 8.000 Jerome Paul Marter Valedictorian 8.000 Lisa Ann Peterman Valedictorian 8.000 Christine Marie Williams 7.9555 Phillip Douglas Coolidge 7.9534 Tammy Sue Maloney 7.9318 Loretta Jean Rundle 7.91666 19 Seniors Take Third in Skit Competition As a result of last year's expenses, the Senior Class began the year with a. deficit of $600.63. To help the class get out of debt, we sold candy bars. The sale helped, but it did not accomplish everything we wanted to do this year. A big disappointment to our class was the third place we received in the homecoming skit and float competitions. We worked so hard. too. Our homecoming queen was Lynne Marchand, who reigned over all the activities. Her court included Kris Dobbins as the senior attendant. Seniors Sam Light, Terry Dixon, and Gene Virgil displayed outstanding talent for the 1981 - 82 football season by receiving special honors and awards. The football players participated in the Pizza Pig-out Contest to benefit Easter Seals. We congratulate Gene Virgil who won the D. A. R. award and Paul Windsor who won the National Merit Scholarship. Also, as a member of the JETS team. Paul received third place in the English competition held at ICC. Jodi Rathbun scored the most points in the history of Mid-State 10 girls' basketball. Natalie Irwin served as Editor-in-Chief of the Amulet. Spirit Week started slowly for the seniors, but as the week progressed, the class spirit gained momentum, resulting in a tie with the Junior Class for the Spirit Paddle. Our clas was led by Rose Huntley, president; Nancy Neff, vice-president: Lynne Marchand. secretary; and Lynne DeLorme, treasurer. Our class advisers were Mr. Greg Camp. Mrs. Mary Lou Hott, and Mr. Robert Privratsky. We walked the final steps in our high school lives on May 19. 1982, when 327 of us graduated. With our hopes and aspirations and our diplomas in hand, we looked forward to the future. Debra Adkinson Key Club 4. Mark A. Secretary Eric Gaffney, President John Wetterauer, Treasurer Freshmen Begin At The Beginning “Where's room 162?” I can't find the stairs to the second floor.” “Is this the way to the cafetorium?” Can you help me with my locker combination? The freshman year began with some considerable confusion that was quickly dispelled. It did not take long to learn the layout of the building, our class schedule, who the teachers were, and who gave out all that homework. It also did not take long to find out that we had a class full of school spirit and enthusiasm and we were willing to go to work for the Class of '85. We had a tremendous beginning this year by defeating all of the other classes in the float competition for the homecoming parade. That was great! We even took second place in the skit competition for the Variety Show. This was not too bad for freshmen with no experience in these kinds of things. When it was time to find our leadership. Eric Gaffney was elected president by a near landslide. It must have been those super campaign posters with those gorgeous pictures the girls all stole that did the job. Steve Burlison was voted vice-president, and Melissa Missy Guthrie was elected secretary. Both ran unopposed. Selected to handle the money was John Wetterauer who also ran unopposed for treasurer. When Spirit Week came, we were given a hall and a color for our class; that was blue and we were rather uninspired. At least we tried hard at everything. We learned a great deal this year, and we'll be better prepared for next year. A big thanks goes to our very patient advisers: Mr. Konya. Mrs. Morse, and Miss Dobridnya. Adams. Jody Alscne. The girls' varsity basketball team stopped just short of the top again this year. Although the Illinois High School Association robbed our team of the glory it deserved by changing the state tournament format for the girls, the Rockets were in the Elite Eight again for the second time in four years. In the long climb to the Elite Eight, the team won 25 games this season and lost only 5. The Richwoods Knights were left behind in Peoria once again while the Limestone Rockets fought their way to the state quarterfinals in Springfield, where they fell to East St. Louis Lincoln, eventual state runner-up. Although it went virtually unnoticed when compared with our state appearance in 1979. it was still a thrilling finale for our team, especially the senior members (Jodi Rathbun. Kathy Guppy. Kate Kelley. Beth Miner, and Julie Pitsonbarger): and it capped a season of record-breaking feats by Jodi Rathbun. the team captain and leader in scoring, rebounds, and assists. Jodi's season point total of 1.119 points made her the single-season statu scoring record holder, and her 2.547 total varsity career points made her the all-time scoring leader in the Peoria area - boy or girl. Dr. Endsley retired uniform number 24 to the trophy case in recognition of the many outstanding accomplish- ments Jodi achieved as a member of the girls' basketball team at Limestone Community High School. Once again the girls' basketball team gave Limestone Community High School reason to be proud of their standing in the Mid-State 10 conference and confident in their outlook as they enter the new Mid-Illini conference.
