Sportsmanship, Pride, and Compassion Shedding pride for compassion. Mr. Knezovich turns over to the crippled children the five hundred dollars he generated by taking a pie in the face. Senior Andy Legaspi and Junior. Bill Bragg, listen closely as Mr. Knezovich explains the rules of the tug-of-war. DEDICATION Among the ups” on our roller coaster ride is the opportunity to dedicate the 1981 AMULET to a respected teacher for many years at Limestone High School. Each year this choice becomes more difficult. One has to decide what qualities deserve a yearbook dedication. Distinguished service, outstanding sportsmanship in all areas, exceptional teaching and academic standards, are all meritable qualities and only together do they describe a candidate for the yearbook dedication. We are aware of the increasing pressures on classroom teachers to lower standards, sugar coat their teaching, and scatter A's and B s generously across report cards. But the real challenge of good teaching remains the extraction of the best of each student’s ability. Our candidate was selected with these criteria in mind. During his college days at Bradley University he was chosen to the Little-AII-American football team his junior year. The following year he was selected to the Chicago Tribune All-Star football team, playing the Chicago Bears. These accomplishments were little steps leading on to a rewarding teaching and coaching career. His first teaching position was held in 1943 at East Peoria High School where he taught mechanical drawing and physical education for 3 years. During his short stay there, he developed 3 all state football players, took East Peoria’s first track team to state competition, and met his future wife. After an absence from teaching for 15 years he began teaching at Limestone High School in the Industrial Arts and P.E. departments and once again he excelled in the area of sports. He coached Sophomore football for 3 years, his last season was undefeated winning the Illini and then Mid-State 8 conferences. He has been officiating football, basketball, baseball, wrestling and the tug-of-war since 1956 and since 1964 has been coaching the golf team whose potential state golfers have had many victories. All these events that have taken place in his life are very recognizable and commendable! But this man has many other victories large and small to be proud of. He is an unselfish and compassionate man. giving to others that are less fortunate. In his years at Limestone he has demonstrated all the qualities, and more, of an exceptional person, teacher, athlete, and coach. It is a privilege to have this man on our Staff at Limestone High School. For your contributions to good sportsmanship, fair play, dedication in your teaching and coaching abilities, we at Limestone High School dedicate this year’s AMULET to you. MR. JOHN KNEZOVICH.
