SPECIAL EFFECTS Our organization can be distinguished from the others in that it is the only service organi- zation that meets two hours each week on school time. It is also connected with the stu- dent council and partially financed by it. As for officers there are several chairmen during the year, heading as many committees which are determined by the school social calendar. The primary purpose of Special Effects is the creation of special art projects, i.e. dance decorations, stage sets, Christmas decorations for the building, the school play, musical pro- ductions, the Coronation ceremonies, and any other projects of the school that call for the talents of art students. -12 The group has no official treasurer, and the use of a secretary would be ridiculous, since C for the sake of efficiencyb the meetings, when they occur, are too informal. Occasionally you can find more than one committee conferring simultaneously, which might tend to confuse the outsiders. It also tends to confuse insiders. One member des- cribed the meetings as organized chaos. However, in spite of the informality, we do get things done. The results of our efforts can be seen from time to time adorning the walls of the cafeteria, at dances, the auditorium, and the stage. Miss Mary Kirk is club advisor. LE CERCLE FRANCAIS Le Cercle Francais provides an opportunity for interested students to learn about the culture and the customs of the French people. This is achieved through slides, movies, and fascinating speakers, many of whom are natives of France. This year the annual French Club dance, called Paris After Dark , was a great success. Proceeds from this money-making project were used for a gift for the department and for a social function for club members. Another of the activities of Le Cercle Francais was the drafting of a constitution. Officers were Linda Wood, President, Betty Long, Vice President, Bobbie Metzger, Secretary, and Sherri Oberley, Treasurer. The advisor was Miss Ann Stanley. -l28-
