SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Four years of achievement have passed into Timeis eternal discard, and the record at Central of the Class of 1955 is now complete. Four years of endeavor, four years of success, four years of progress, have made for the Class of '55 a most excellent and enviable record. As we look back to one September day in 1951, it seems like only yesterday that we came marching from the junior high side filled to the brim with ambitions, and trying to prove our worth to ourselves and to the upperclassmen. We started off by electing Paul Gross, Presidentg Cynthia Kerr, Vice-presidentg Muriel Connor, Secretary, and Patsy Hager, Treasurer. In the field of sports our freshman football team had a pretty tough season, winding up with one win, two losses, and three ties. When basketball season rolled around, however, we were con- soled with a sparkling season's record of fourteen wins and two losses. As that year came to an end and Coronation Day came around we elected Virginia Smith and Paul Gross as attendants to the May King and Queen. The assistance rendered to us by Miss Mc- Pheron, our class supervisor, was appreciated by all. After a somewhat hectic but successful year as freshmen, we entered early in September as sophomores. We began our second mile by electing Dave Kimmel, Jim DeVoe, Janet Jordan, and Beverly Bowersock, as President, Vice-president, Secretary, and Treasurer, respectively. With a surprising amount of timidity discarded somewhere along the way, we began to find our way to the extra-curricular activities of the school. A few of us were placed in rolls of the annual Troubadour Play, Ah, Men, while others were happily participating in the Senior Choir production of the operetta, The Red Mill. Some of us joined the annual staff-others, the weekly. Our boys turned out in great numbers for almost every sport that year. Finally Cynthia Kerr and Merrill Catle were elected as our representatives to the May Day celebrations. Miss Stiles was our helpful supervisor that year. With two years of achievement behind us, we entered dear old Central as upperclassmen. This was the year! We elected, as our leaders, Mike Plummer, President, Larry Biederman, Vice-presi- dent, Cynthia Kerr, Secretary, and Judy Reed, Treasurer. Miss Rimer was our class supervisor. Many things stood out in the field of achievement that year. In the literary field a few of us were awarded to Quill and Scroll. The dramatic production, Curtain Going Up, was our Junior Class Play. Many of us were awarded a letter for participating in sports or cheerleading. And yes, this was the year we got those long awaited class rings. How proud we were of them! With the approach of Coronation Day Muriel Connor and Larry Biederman were elected Junior Attendants. It wasn't long after that that the Prom took its place in our memories. What a wonderfully new way to end what had been almost a perfect year. We didn't just wake up seniors! We weren't surprised. We had worked three years for that privilege. Many times we had cast an envious eye upon those superiors who we tried so hard to follow. Finally we made the grade and answered proudly, SENIORS when asked what grade we were in. Many times we had longed for the privilege of being a senior and then out of school for good. But when those last days came dangerously close, there were very few of us who didnit feel a pang of regret. This was our last year and it was up to us to make it a success. We started out by electing as President, Merrill Castle, Vice-president, Larry Biedermang Secretary, Cynthia Kerr, and Treasurer, Beverly Bowersock. Miss Bonita Jamison, our class super- visor, was our guiding hand. This was a great year for the dear old '55ers. In football we had a record of five wins, two losses and two ties. Eleven seniors won letters. At the traditional Homecoming ceremonies Cynthia Kerr was crowned Queen, with Joyce McKillip, Judy Reed, Joan Darling, and Jeannie Silverstein, as her attendants. In basketball we had a thrilling season which wound up with a 15-5 record. There were five seniors on the basketball team. The time flew by and with it went the fun of the Senior Class Party, the Senior Class Play, Time Out For Ginger, and the Senior Choir Operetta, Brigadoon.', Forty seniors took the scholarship test with winning results. Before we knew it, the Prom, last assembly, class picnic, Baccalaureate, and Commencement were all over. It had happened so fast that our heads were almost spinning. Now that it was all over we realized that those days had been the good ol' days we so often hear our parents talk about. Before, the Alma Mater had been just a song and the fight song something to sing after touchdownsg but now, when we hear those beautiful strains we appreciate them more. They bring back fond memories of the past-memories of victories, memories of defeats, memories of all the things that only high school life can be. And what is more, these memories will be a part of us as long as we have the ability to remember. Senior Scholarship From a class of 225, 40 students were chosen to take the annual scholarship test offered each year to high school seniors. On Saturday morning, january 29, the selected students from Central, as well as those from the other Allen County schools, assembled in room 307 at the early hour of 8:50 to begin the tests. They were hard, but everyone managed to get through them. The results were outstanding. Bob Hullinger and Mike Plummer from Central placed first and second respectively in the county, and many others from Central followed close behind them. The student body can be proud of these boys and girls from the last Senior Class who ranked among the best in the state. Instead of returning to the schools they know so well, they'l1 find themselves in the halls of a bigger, more modern building - Lima Senior High School. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors alike will again have that feeling of not knowing where to go, what to do, or whom to talk to. It will be like starting all over again. For many it will be a realm of confusion, but for others it will mean new friends, bigger and better advantages, and a great feeling of oneness. There will be great football, basketball, baseball, and track teams, bigger and better dramatic clubs and choral groups, and better extra-curricular clubs and organizations. Good luck to all the Lima Senior Highers. May they make their school as great a one as ours was.
