Ruth Moore Le Cercle Francais was the French Club, composed of thirty culture-minded students, which met in room 306. lf an English-speaking person had Walked into that room he would have been dumbfounded. Those club members joked, sang, and talked-all in French! Although they conversed in a foreign tongue, these students had a very conventional list of activities. They gave a Valentine party, an evening party, and sponsored a movie. The French Club also offered an excellent opportunity for practice in speaking French. The twenty-five members met in room 254 every first and third Friday. The purpose of this club, as stated in the constitution adopted by the Association of Ohio, was to provide for mental and physical health through satisfactory social and recreational activities, to create in each member an abiding interest in his occupation, and to foster a deep feeling of respon- sibility for contributing to the civic, social, and moral business. The club made field trips to several local industries such as radio station WIMA, the Lima Telephone and Telegraph Company, the North Star Woolen Mills, and the Gro-Cord Rubber Company. Its Christmas project was to clothe a child, whose name was received from a welfare agency. Sally Schoenlein -117-
