Senior Class History OUR years ago a class of green freshmen hugging its books tightly ntered Central through the back door Some older classmen laughed at its timidity but these newcomers were already dreaming and building castles in the air Immediately it set about to build the foundations for these eastles and each member took up his duty with a will For the hrst year secretary and Francis Failor treasurer while Bob Blue and Jack Raudabaugh were chosen as the first Fresh Student Council representatiyes During this first year the class entered into most of the activities open for it with varied degrees of determination Bob Blue was elected cheer leader and Jane 'Vlatthews played the lead in the annual 'Vlasqueraders play The Touchdown both outstanding hwnors for freshmen The second year came around and the class was now ready to build the first floor upon the foundation which had been built before This time the cflicers were chosen yery thoughtfully and with great dignity As a result four boys were elected Eldon Basinger Henry White Bob Blue and Andrew Gruber For the Student Council Mona Vittur Alice Hilty Bob Blue and Richard Black were named The building went on and it soon became time for the second story of the castle Very gravely the responsibilities of upperclassmen were assumed The efficers for the third year were Don Bowlus Mona Vittur Alice Hilty and Florence White Florence White and Bob Case were selected to aid the sam four that had been chosen the preceding year for the Council During the Junior year the class was well represented in athletics debate dramatics scholarship music and journalism The class play Vanity was so well presented by the cast that it was said by many people to be the best play giyen at Central and the Juniors felt quite satisfied Near the ClOse of this active year the class honored the seniors with the I-lop which w s 1 zeeogniled success The task was almost finished and the roof alone remained to be built but how important is that roof. Those chosen to lead the class for the list time were John Crawford. Mona Vittur, Alice I-lilty, and Florence Whiti. The same Student Council members were again chosen with the addition of Fred Horn. John Crawford, and Henry White. The class kept the honor of the senior class unbesmirched by saying the t'tle of first place in the field meet from the grasping hands of the other classes. Lilies of the Field' was chosen as the annual senior play and it w is presented very ably by the cast. The senior Dinner-Dance. held at Shawnie Country Club. the senior Tea, and commencement. closed the festiyities of the year as one class. ln looking back oyer the four years. perhaps there is a great deal of happiness and perhaps a bit of sorrow because the foundation w as not built as soundly as it might have been. But this all yanishes when we realize that the building of these air castles does not finish everything-it does not put the roof on the castle: instead. the whole structure is only a foundation for a more stable. more realistic, and more significant castle that is to be built upon it and is to be our lasting home. We are now allowed for the last time to express our appreciation of the work done by the supervisors, the architects of our castles. If it had not been for them. our castles would have had no beauty nor plan, and possibly' would have fallen down about us.
