Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1953 volume:

DEAR LIUIS. V Four short years ago, the class of 1953 first made their way through Lillis doors as Lillisites. Very soon they will leave the security that these halls have provided, to meet the innumerable trials, dangers and hardship that lie in the years ahead. But we go to meet them as Catholic men and women, sure of our faith, ready to live as we have learned. In these four years we have learned the Benedictine life, and way, the Benedictine family ideal and it formed the bed-rock upon which stone upon stone of our studies and activities have been laid. These years have been an important part of our life. They are irreplacable. Never again can we do the things we have done here. Never again can we see or hear the things we have seen and heard here, never aga feel as we have felt, a part of Lillis pulling with all our heart and soul to win that game in those final desparate minutes and seconds. We can call to mind the memories, but as time passes, the distinct- ness of these images will fade and thoughts of high school days will bring but a warm feeling inside. Contained herein is but a brief history of this final year. As we leaf through the pages, we can recall the steadfast friends we are leaving here, who will be ever ready to see and hear from us, to whom we have always turned with each problem that came along. We leave them with a warm prayer of thanks and love. But now a phase of our life is ended. We will never again be able to regain it. Time is forever moving on and with it we must also go. Whether it is college, work or a family for which we are headed, we must be pre- pared to do the best with it. It is time now, not to look back, but ahead. We have been armed to meet what lies ahead. We are leaving now, but we’ll be back...sometime! FAREWELL. We, the class of 1953 wish to dedicate with our love and prayers, in this school year commemorating our consecration to your most Holy and Im- maculate Heart, this tenth and anniversary edition of the Lillis- THE HOST REVEREND EDWIN V. OHARA BISHOP OF KANSAS CITf To the Bishop of Kansas City, His excellency, the Most Reverend Edwin V. O’Hara, who as shepherd of his diocese, has been a shining in- spirition to its youthful members, the class of 1953 offers its deepest gratitude for his guidance and undying interest in Catholic education and Catholic Action. We of Lillis High are grateful to him for all he has done in behalf of the school. THE MOST REVEREND JOSEPH M. MARLING AUXILIARY BISHOP OF KANSAS CITV We, the seniors of 1953, also wish to pledge to His Excellency, the Most Reverend Joseph M. T TAt APOSUTS “...Our vision of a better day cannot become a reality unless the youth of this hour, who will be the men and women of tomorrow, have developed a character and disposition that favors the arts of civilization and world peace... These are the words of the late Bishop Duffy to youth leaders, and can aptly be applied to the aim of the Lillis Lay Apostol- ate movement and the junior lay apostolate movement everywhere. Under the able direction of the Rev. M.F. McAuliffe, long-time teacher, adviser and friend of Lillis and Lillisites the Lay Apostles were again organized in September and started on the march of Catholic Action as the year sped swiftly by. Action and conquest in service of the Church serve as basic ideals in the movement as the many fields into which the Catholic student can carry Catholic Action are stressed. Boundless are the opportunities of the Lay Apostle--now and in the years to come—as a leader in the school, the community, and the nation, to integrate Catholic Action in his work, in his play--in his life, and the life of our nation. “THET MELON THE FOOTSTEPS Of TOT TWELVE...
