his edition of Footprints is presented to you as a novel, The Story of 1970. It is appropriate that the story of the many people at Lillington High School, through their work, play, competition, and enjoyment, be related as a novel. The authors hope that your reading will be both pleasurable and informative—through the introduction of the characters, the unfolding of the plot, and the excitement of the conflict. Emphasis on integral parts of high school life has been stressed in this novel. We have attempted to record as many incidents as possible in the 1970 edition. But we realize that we can capture only a few glimpses of your vast store of memories. There will be a sequel to this novel, but the story that has been told here will never be duplicated. Year after year setting, plot, conflict and climax will remain nearly the same, but the characters will be continually changing. To you, the reader, we offer this “best seller” and hope that it truly captures The Story of 1970 for nowand for memories in years to come.
