CLASS HISTORY September 1953 found eighty-seven eager, exc ited freshmen embarking upon the threshold of a new and adventurous wo rld - -that of high school. As new- comers we were often times perplexed by many problems but never lost sight of our destination- -graduation. During our first year at L.H.S. we were under the guidance of Mrs . Walker, Mr s . Crews, and Mr. Blackmon. We worked h ard and faced each task with the determinationto see our job marked as well-done. After treading the rugged foothills of the ninth grade, we were now ready to be gin our slow, hard, climb up the huge mountain that towered above us . In our sophomore year, after reaching the first plateau, sixty-four students buckled down for nine months of hard work under the leadership of Mr. Leggett , Mr. Bradley, and Miss Taylor. We chose our class officers- P r e s id ent , Barbara Morgang Vice- president, Gerald Myrick, Secretary- treasurer, Willis Adcock. During this year many members of our class entered the BetaClub, became members of the football, basketball and baseball teams, and were placed on the Lilling- tonian and Annual staffs. The third plateau of our steep climb found fifty-four Juniors under the guidanc e of Mrs. Kirkland and Mrs. O' Quinn. This year we elected Gene Autry as our class President, Gerald Myrick as Vice-president, Bobbie Ann Bethune as Secretary, and Doris B, Woodley as Treasurer. We worked doubly hard all year, sold magazines and p re s ented a play, Ready Made Family, to raise money to finance our Junior -Senior Banquet with the theme Memories are Made of This. 1 This s ame year we ordered our clas s rings, chose our motto, Strive to be that which you wish to seem, and our class c olors , lavender and white. Our clas s participated in the graduation exercises and at commence- ment fur ni s h e d the marshals: chief- David Pinnix, Allen Walker, .Timmy Barnhill, Keeter Baggett, Gerald Myrick,Sue Brown, and Doris Woodley. We W e r e rewarded for our hard work at the end of the year by being voted the most out standing class in high school. Forty-three S enior s with an un- failing spirit continued to climb under the fine leadership of Miss Hockaday, We elected as our officers Gene Autry, president, Gerald Myrick, Vice-presi- dent, Barbara Morgan, secretary, and Jim my Barnhill, Treasurer. During this last year we chose our superl- atives and presented a very successful play to help finance our trip to Wash- ington. We were very busy the last months of school. Though the rocks were rugged and the g oing often rough we continued to c li mb until we reached the summit-- gr ad uation . We realize that there looms ahead of us the gigantic mountain of life which we must yet climb if we hope to attain success. As we survey our high school career we realize that without the guidance, love, and devotion of our parents and faculty that it would have been impossible to reach our desti- nation. We,the Senior Class of l957,say with sincerity and deep humility, Thank You. x 4
