On this date we were scheduled to leave Freshman Town on a journey that would take four years. Our destination--the far-away place known as Graduation. ln September 1951, sixty-four crew members, under the direction of three pilots--Mrs. Walker, Mrs, Crews, and Mr. Blackmon--boarded the plane for the first lap of the journey. The activities during this trip were carried on by Shirley Cook, Karen Walker, and Charles McDonald, who were under the direction ofthe pilots. This lap of our journey was not very eventful because we were just starting out and had lots of hard work to do. After nine months of hard work we stopped to refuel and rest. When we were ready to start the second lap of our journey we found that several of our crew members had left us and some new ones were coming aboard. This time our pilots were Mrs. Womble and Miss Smith, and their sergeants were Lorraine Blevins and Charles McDonald. Several of the forty-seven members became members ofthe Beta Club, Glee Club, F. H. A,, F, F, A., baseball, softball, football and basketball teams. Everyone worked hard and at the end of the flight we were rewarded by being voted the outstanding class of the year, The third lap of our journey was more eventful than the first two. The pilots were Mrs. Womble and Mrs.O'Quinn, who had as their sergeants Charles McDonald, Darrell Kelly, Frank Farrell and Beatrice Patrick. Forty-sevencrew members, with the aid of the pilots, sold maga- zine subscriptions, Christmas cards , and in November gave a play entitled Here Comes Charlie, to finance our activities. We chose as our motto, Not to the Top but Climbing , class flower, blue iris, and mascots, Joyce Womble and Rupert Langdon. April was a busy month. Several crew members attended the Beta Club convention in Asheville and we gave a banquet for the seniors. This same year we ordered our class rings. The time had slipped by and we were nearing the end of our third flight. We participated in Commencement and furnished the marshalls. They were Karen Walker, Chief, Charles McDonald, Ruth Holder, Darrell Kelly, W. C. Lanier, Carolyn Salmon, and Faye McDonald. Again we were rewarded for our hard work by being voted the out- standing class of the year. At last after three years of hard work and good times we started on the last lap of our jour- ney. We were pleased to have Miss Hockaday as our pilot and her sergeants were Charles Mc- Donald, Presidentg Darrell Kelly, vice-presidentg Stacy Whittington, Secretary, and Frank Far- rell, Treasurer. Forty-three Crew members were looking forward to our destination--Gradu- ation, We sold shirts and Christmas cards to help finance our activities for the last lap of our journey, ln April we presented a play entitled In Spring The Sap, We were very busy during the months of April and May, planning our trip to Washington, selecting a gift to the school and getting ready for commencement. We the Senior Class of 1955 wish to express our appreciation to our families, the faculty and all who have helped us reach our destination.
