Zzgonler Choral C1416 On October 'l2 1953 Lugonuer Hugh School not only received a guft of tremendous value both financually and spurutually but also had the honor of begunnung the Stemway Centennual Concert Serues to be guven by the Steunway and Sons Puano Company All thus came about through the efforts of the Lugonuer Choral Club under the durectuon of Mrs Joseph Kecskemethy The program on Monday evenung marked the end of a dream conceuved long before un the munds of one of Lugonuers most beloved musucal groups the program opened wuth the presentatuon of a Steinway grand puano to the Lugonuer Hugh School by Mrs Albert Carns Mr Wylue gracious ly accepted ut and as he saud there were no words un hus lumuted vocabulary to express hus heartfelt thanks to the Choral Club nor were there words to descrube the sumple beauty of that puano banked by palms and topped wuth cu bowl of red roses as ut first appeared to the auduence that nught The expert hands of Muss Lulu Keletu world renowned concert puanust chrustened the new un strument She played her way unto everyones heart and as long as the puano remauns shall nIeA I IJ S 14 Prana her poise and stage presence and her delughtful musuc made the evenung fly by all too quuckly The spellbound audience could have lustened for hours longer At untermussuon Mr Frederuck Steunway whose grandfather founded the Steunway Com pany descrubed the hustory of the puano and some of the untrucate and delucate processes un the manufacture of the exquusute unstruments Mr Steunway was cu most entertaunung speaker and also a very unformatuve one Before com ung to the concert he spoke to the Rotary Club on the same subuect The presentation of the puano and the con cert were very umpressuve but the real thrull came the next mornung when Muss Keletu gave a short concert for the student body before her plane left for home They loved her and trued to show theur apprecuatuon through theur warm spontaneous applause The hugh school student body and faculty would luke to take thus opportunuty to extend theur many thanks to the Lugonuer Choral Club Muss Lulu Keletu Mr Frederuck Steunway and all the others who helped make the magnuficent grand puano on theur stage not a dream but a I H S Studentst fnter fxlubiht In Sclence Show Lugonuer Hugh School had a representatuon of thurteen lunuor and senior students partucu patung un the science show at Buhl Planetaruum thus sprung Under the supervusuon of theur scu ence teacher Mr J C Stormont these students constructed and entered theur exhubuts Many awards are guven away each year to the person or persons havung orugunal exhubuts The first pruze us a science scholarshup worth several thousand dollars Although each student or group was workung for a pruze even an honor able mentuon would have been welcomed The Physucs class had three boys Rodney Murdock Dan West and Ronnue Nucely enter ung a Van de Graff electruc generator These boys spent many hours making the apparatus The chemustry classes were well repre sented Charles Hudak entered a Rock tShup whuch was well duagramed and very descruptuve un three dufferent take oFf stages of a rocket The process of uonuzatuon was shown by an elec trucal setup demonstratung how and when uonu zatuon takes place ut was a uount prouect made by Lous Ambrose and Ella Ankney Edna Wul lucums and Shelva Montucue worked on the P H Values of varuous foods Phulup Rea prepared a dusplay called Nuclear Fussuon a simplified version showing reactions by pung pong balls that lut up at the touch of a swutch Justune Saunders Goldue Ruddell and Susan Frye worked on a diagram showung a sample container of Fure Extunguushers Uses and Types To show the chemucals used un the varuous models of extunguushers they utuluzed small glass tubes wuth sealed luds They also demonstrated how a soda acud extunguusher could be used I I C l I I C I I . . . .
