ARE FUHIVIALLY I ITIATEU THIS YE II OFFICERS President , , Max Mickey Vice President . jimmy Simon Secretary . jay Hall Treasurer Kenneth Hull After having scrubbed our faces and donned our shoes we, one hundred and thirteen be- wildered boys and girls, came down from our mountain homes to become the Class of 1948 and the youngest members of the Mountaineer family. In the first weeks of school we found ourselves in many a wrong nook or corner and in many a wrong room. But after having become acquainted with our numerous relatives and new surroundings, we found we liked it all the better. From the beginning of the school year we awaited with dread the much talked of initia- tion. The day it came was a trying one. We, with our green ribbons, curlers, and huge ear rings, must have been a comical sight. Wesley Leonard, one of our brothers, was brought forth on a stretcher and covered with bandages. He was the Fresh freshman. Bill Dubosh, playing the part of a pet puppy, was led around on a leash by jane Vogele. It was also decided that Charles Robb would make a most beautiful girl. The eldest members of the family, namely the Seniors, held a party for us in the evening at which everyone enjoyed drinking cider out of little brown jugs. Sjx of our brothers represented our group in football while our contribution to a champion basketball team was five. Two of our sisters, Kenny is listening to a lecture by Jim, jay, and Xhx about the advantages of remaining in school, however to no avail because he left L.H.S. after football 8618011 Bean Fish and Bean Eisaman, were found to be peppy cheerleaders and jim Simon a capable football and basketball manager. Several other members of the family joined in to contribute their skill in twirling batons and leading the band. Our class was the Hrst to study Pennsyl- vania History. This we did under the guidance of Coach Testa. XVe have found Miss Dickin- son's favorite saying, If you wring hard enough, it will always come out in the washn, is quite true. XVe also discovered that Ivanhoe is quite interesting. Our spirit was shown when in November a magazine subscription campaign was held by our class. Room the winner, was honored with a party which only members of Room 3 could attend. Although Room 3 led the Moun- taineer Campaign with 11576, Room 4 was a close runner-up. Every Thursday our patriotism was shown by the buying of Defense Stamps and Bonds. XVe have now completed the first steps in our high school education. Although a few of our family have dropped out of school, those remaining are looking forward to coming down from their mountain homes to greet the family once more and to become Sophomores.
